The Peculiar Crimes Unit has solved many extraordinary cases over the years, but some were hushed up and hidden away. Until now. Arthur Bryant remembers these lost cases as if they were yesterday. Here, then, is the truth about the Covent Garden opera diva and the seventh reindeer, the body that falls from the Tate Gallery, the ordinary London street corner where strange accidents keep occurring, the consul’s son discovered buried in the unit’s basement, the corpse pulled from a swamp of Chinese dinners, a Hallowe’en crime in the Post Office Tower, and the impossible death that’s the fault of a forgotten London legend. Expect misunderstood clues, lost evidence, arguments about Dickens, churches, pubs and disorderly conduct from the investigative officers they laughingly call ‘England’s Finest’!©2019 Christopher Fowler (P)2019 W. Old friends back

I am a huge fan of Christopher Fowler's Bryant and May series, pouncing on each new book as it comes out.
His characters are amazing, particularly Arthur who we all adore, despite his being a grumpy old git a lot of the time. Occasionally he glances up from his books and we see that he does love and appreciate those around him.
This, our second Christmas gift of a volume of short stories, is a collection of perfectly crafted treats that leave you craving more.
We are mostly in London, that vital extra character, but we do venture far afield in one story.
The series is a perfect example of an audiobook taking a book and adding a dimension. Tim Goodman puts the perfect voice to each character and helps pull us in. in this volume, where the stories jump around Bryant and May's timeline, he even manages to shave age from the voices without losing the people.
Genius.
I'm off to start again at the beginning.

I am so happy Bryant and May are back. In these difficult times it is great to escape into their world. Christopher Fowler has done the perfect thing ,delving into past cases via Bryant’s memoirs. I enjoyed this immensely. For those who read the Rivers of London books by Ben Aaronovitch wouldn’t it be great if the Folly ran into the PCU , just sayin !

Flicking through Audible I noticed the latest collection of Bryant and May stories; what joy. As with all short stories it is a mixed bag but enjoyable nonetheless. I have been with the two gentlemen since the beginning and dread the day when they finally retire. Having collections like this enables the PUC to never finally close. Particularly enjoy Raymond Land’s introduction with his perspective on the cases. Tim Goodman as narrator is as brilliant as ever. If I ever read Bryant and May stories in book form I hear his voice in my head!

It took me a little while into the first story to get into the swing of things, but once I properly „met“ the main characters, I was hooked. Will definitely be looking for more books starring England‘s Finest! I really liked the narration, too.

Great!
