About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

In 2004, Momofuku Noodle Bar opened in Manhattan's East Village. Its young chef-owner, David Chang, served ramen and pork buns to a mix of fellow restaurant cooks and confused diners whose idea of ramen was instant noodles in Styrofoam cups. It would have been impossible to know that he would become one of the most influential chefs of his generation.

Full of grace, candour, grit and humour, Eat a Peach chronicles Chang's journey, laying bare his mistakes and feelings of otherness and inadequacy. Along the way, Chang gives us a penetrating look at restaurant life, balancing his deep love for the kitchen with unflinching honesty about the industry's history of brutishness and its uncertain future.

An intimate account of the making of a chef, the modern restaurant world that he helped shape and how success can be much harder to understand than failure.

"David is a personal hero - funny, wise, humble, and self-aware. With Eat a Peach, he puts words to so many of the things we all feel, sharing generously of his own journey so we can all benefit in the process." (Chrissy Teigen, New York Times best-selling author of Cravings)

Dave Chang's look back over his life and career is full of funny and dark stories. He is as humble as ever often still refusing to take credit for anything that has clearly been achieved because of him. Well written, well narrated.

Humble and uncompromising look back over a career.

Author-read can be bad but David does a great job. The content is excellent and supremely engaging. He’s not perfect and he acknowledges it but despite it he’s been successful against the odds. Good job David.

It’s a peach

Some of the greatest audio books are autobiographies read by the author. Eat a peach is not an exception to that statement. The story is great and compelling, I wanted to finish the whole thing in one go, but forced myself to spread it over days so I could enjoy it a bit longer. It might be because I am a chef and can relate to some bits, but it is not just that. Eat a peach is not only about being a celebrity chef, it's also about mental health, learning from your mistakes, never settling, racism in the US, and so much more.

I had no idea of the complex story behind DC. A fascinating read. Read by the author, which is always rewarding, even if the delivery is less polished than professional voice actors. Highly recommend.
