About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

One of the best-known and most beloved historical novelists, Georgette Heyer, as ever, captures a whole new audience's heart.

Stepping into the wrong carriage at a Sussex village, Elinor Rochdale is swept up in a thrilling and dangerous adventure. Overnight the would-be governess becomes mistress of a ruined estate and partner in a secret conspiracy to save a family's name. By midnight, she is a bride, by dawn, a widow.

A typically thrilling and sweeping tale of romance and tragedy, The Reluctant Widow is Georgette Heyer at her best - the undisputed queen of historical romance.

Typical warmth and easy going story of this author. Relaxes anyones frayed nerves , even if relations visiting.

Excellent voices for all the characters, really enjoyed this audible. I can tell I will be revisiting it often.

Lovely narrator, amazing story

Found it very difficult to listen to the mispronunciation, and inappropriate accents in this narration. No understanding of the dynamics of the story and really spout it. Only continued listening because was on a long car journey and couldn’t change!!!!

Ruined by poor narration and mispronunciation!

There is a lot of wit in Heyer's books generally and in this one in particular but this narrator just tells it flat. He can do voices but misses the humour and is really rather flat. It is such a shame as this is a good book. There are scenes here that are really let down.
The story is all a bit madcap, and at times farcical but it is written so well, fast, funny, engaging characters, even to the dog. I recommend the book but maybe try and find a different version or if it is an option read it rather than listen.

A favourite book so I persevered but really very difficult to listen to. If only they were all re-recorded.

Awful narration
