Summary

Romance, friendship, joy and the possibility of happy endings: the heartwarming new novel by number one best seller Katie Fforde.

Lizzie has just arrived in London, determined to make the best of her new life.

Her mother may be keen that she should have a nice wedding in the country to a suitable man chosen by her, and Lizzie may be going to cookery school to help her become a good wife...but she definitely wants to have some fun first.

It's 1963, and London is beginning to swing as Lizzie cuts her hair, buys a new dress with a fashionably short hemline and moves in with two of her best friends, one of whom lives in a grand but run-down house in Belgravia that has plenty of room for a lodger.

Soon Lizzie's life is so exciting that she has forgotten all about her mother's marriage plans for her.

All she can think about is that the young man she is falling in love with appears to be engaged to someone else....

New to audiobooks

Loved audiobooks as kid and my children listened to them alot when babies & toddlers. Katie Fforde is my favourite book author and I absolutely loved listening to ‘A wedding in the country’ on my school runs
Such great characters and I loved the story and period it was set in 1964

Such a disappointment

Having been a devoted Katie Fforde fan for many a year, this book came as a surprise and not in a good way.
Gone was the humorous, easy to follow, modern day plot line and its place a vintage, period piece set in the 1960's with a confusing plot line which seemed to lose it's way almost from the first. It took me a long time to get into, although I did get into it towards the middle and there were some of the usual creative themes in there somewhere. There were glimpses of the usual magic but her usual lovely writing style was largely gone. I couldn't relate to the main characters or even find anything to like about them, which is sort of necessary to enjoy a book of this sort. While I'll concede that this was well written, I'm sorry to say this is not what I was hoping for and if you want a good listen, try Katie Fforde's earlier books as they're the best!

Hard for me to get into

The narrator was very good. I did struggle to finish this and I kept restarting listening to it. Have enjoyed other Katie Fforde books more.

Dreadful narration

I have read all Katie Fforde’s books but the narrator of her latest is so bad with her ridiculous accents that she has managed to destroy the characters. Buy the book and read it rather than waste your money on this audio version.

Not the Best IMO

I gave up on this book; it lumbered along as I continued to wait with anticipation for the story to start. In the past I’ve really enjoyed this author. The narrator just got on my nerves - with too much emphasis on “posh” accents, so much so that I couldn’t listen any longer. Sorry Audible- not for me.

Really underwhelmed

I was disappointed with this book as the storyline was very week and the plot non-existent. I usually enjoy Katie Fforde books but felt this just never got started and was a bit dull. The highlight for me was the narrator, had it not been for her I would have been looking for a refund…
