A girl.

A secret.

A life-changing journey.

Born covered in the feathers of a bird and kept hidden in a crumbling house full of secrets, Marea has always known she was different but has never known why. And so to find answers, she goes in search of the father she has never met.

The hunt leads her to the City of Murmurs, a place of mermaids and mystery, where jars of swirling mist are carried through the streets by the broken-hearted.

And Mara will never forget what she learns there.

Feathertide is an enchanting, magical novel perfect for fans of Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus and Katherine Arden's The Bear and the Nightingale.

"A beautiful fairytale of a book with the most delicious prose. I devoured [it]." (Alex Bell, best-selling author of The Polar Bear Explorers’ Club)

I enjoyed listening to this story. it was truly magical. if a Story had wings this one would fly. The narration was soothing and gentle, very suited to the storytelling. The story itself was like a fairytale, a coming of age, a discovery and ultimately an acceptance. it was lovely and I enjoyed it.

This makes a pleasant change from those fantasy books where there are dragons and battles and destruction and chaos. Instead, this story is softer, slower and calmer and offers a sense of hope and poignancy.

This is definitely Marea's story and we see her grow and gain her independence in a world of uncertainty. The obstacles she encounters are often of her making which is frustrating but also very relatable! It is a beautiful internal and external journey. I will definitely make this journey again, even if it's just to savour the imagery. A magical piece of escapism.

VIVID AND DEEPLY IMAGINATIVE.

An enchanting tale

This reads more like youth fiction written by someone who’s just graduated from creative writing school than a grown up novel. It’s a sweet fairy tale and I probably would have loved it when I was 13 years old. The excessive use of metaphors and similes became tiresome after a while and the sickly sweet narrator’s voice reminded me of a children’s TV presenter. Great for teens but not for me.

Sweet fairytale for teen fiction fans
