About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Veronica McCreedy is about to have the journey of a lifetime....

Veronica McCreedy lives in a mansion by the sea. She loves a nice cup of Darjeeling tea whilst watching a good wildlife documentary. And she’s never seen without her ruby-red lipstick.

Although these days, Veronica is rarely seen by anyone, because at 85, her days are spent mostly at home, alone.

She can be found either collecting litter from the beach (‘people who litter the countryside should be shot’), trying to locate her glasses (‘someone must have moved them’) or shouting instructions to her assistant, Eileen (‘Eileen, door!’).

Veronica doesn’t have family or friends nearby. Not that she knows about, anyway.... And she has no idea where she’s going to leave her considerable wealth when she dies.

But today...today, Veronica is going to make a decision that will change all of this.

I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. I was struggling taking breaks because I was so gripped on the storyline

An uplifting and inspirational story.

Enjoyed this from the first word to the last... discovering all the characters that the narrators brought to life,as the story evolved ... I felt like I was there within the story... so delightful. Well worth a listen.

What a tale

What an absolutely delightful read. It's not my usual type of read and I throughly enjoyed the escape from everyday life and to life of the penguins. The characters were all intriguing and quirky. Highly recommend you give this one a read.

I listened to this one via Audible. 10 and a half hours done in 3 days as I just couldn't stop listening to it.

What an absolutely delightful read.

I thoroughly enjoyed Away with the Penguins, a lovely warm and interesting story during our third Covid 19 lockdown.
The characters were believable, the settings were well researched, and I learned enough about adelie penguins to make me want more information.
My intention was to listen to it on my daily 5km walk but that only lasted for 2 days! Two evening sessions, as I knitted, brought me immense pleasure, many chuckles and flurries of emotion. I would highly recommend this book and I loved the narration.
A 70 yr old Granny.

A wonderful first book on Audible.

I loved this book. Wasn’t at the start tho. But then when the grandson came into it it got really interesting and as Veronica was starting to bore me a bit. Brilliant story. Brilliant narration. Brilliant ending. Wanted more!

Loved it! Quirky and great!
