Summary

The Inn at Gloucester stands alone on the rocky New England shoreline.

Its seclusion suits former Boston police detective Bill Robinson, novice owner and innkeeper. As long as the dozen residents pay their rent, Robinson doesn’t ask any questions.

Yet all too soon Robinson discovers that leaving the city is no escape from dangers he left behind. A new crew of deadly criminals move into the small town, bringing drugs and violence to the front door of the inn.

Robinson feels the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. His sense of duty compels him to fight off the threat to his town. But he can’t do it alone. Before time runs out, the residents of the inn will face a choice.

Stand together? Or die alone.

Great story

Great story, really well narrated, i finished this in 3 days! Loved all the characters, each could have their own book - Does Bill become a consultant for Boston PD? How did Nick get Ptsd? What the heck happened to bring Effie to the inn? Cline's back story? And what's up with the mysterious tenant who never leaves his room?

a bit slow

it was a struggle to be honest it didn't make me feel I needed to keep reading as it seemed a bit predictable to me . I made it to the end but probably wouldn't read it again

Patterson Plus One - Not The Best Formula!

Not for the first time recently I've read a book that James Patterson has co-authored and come away wondering if the old maxim "two heads are better than one" needs some serious revision. We all know what Patterson can be very good at: secret plots, high action, fast paced stories. This is in a different realm though, I liked the premise, this Inn full of misfits with stories to tell and a small local town being threatened by a criminal gang. If the Inn could be brought to life with depth and character and the rest of the story was good it could have been a real cracker!

For me, while Fox and Patterson had some very good ideas they didn't get all the ingredients right. I never really got a strong feeling of the Inn as a place and I felt that the ideas for the characters within were short-changed. It felt like a decent enough story that with a bit more depth and care could really have been something a bit special and a bit different from Patterson's normal high-octane approach.

On the plus side Eduardo Ballerini does a fine job of the narration with a large range of voices and once the story gets going and takes off in the final third it is decent enough. It's just that I think the premise deserved more and I am fast coming to the conclusion that Patterson alone is something I'll still look for but that Patterson plus one other is not a formula that seems to work anywhere near as well.

Great!!

Another great story Mr. Patterson never disappoints. Its nice once in a while to have
a stand alone book and this one was good it had everything. Grief, pain a little bit of fun, mystery and realistic ending which ensured justice for many. Thank you Mr. Patterson

Unimaginative and bland. This novel's not novel.

I was surprised when it finished. I thought there may be a subplot about to appear, then it ended..!
Maybe I switched off halfway through, although that's equally damning.
