Brought to you by Penguin.

Transport yourself to mid-century New York in this compelling and evocative story of secrets, jealousy and hidden love

NEW YORK CITY, 1955.

In the dimmed lights of their apartment, Dovie and Gillian love each other in secret. Mixing drinks, dancing to slow jazz, they guard their lives closely, knowing they'll never truly be safe.

And yet, outside, someone suspects the truth.

Gillian fears the worst, and grips on to Dovie more tightly. But Dovie, seeing the good in people, lets the door open . . .

Is this their chance to finally be free?

Or are they in even more danger than before?

price of salt era

The twin time lines work very well together. I read it in one sitting & I loved it. Whilst the resolution isn't what fairytales are made of, neither is life. That makes it all the more believable and enjoyable. It did have a Price of Salt feel to it. Not some gushing romance, but a love story with a real sense of the time and a realistic nemesis.

Not sure I liked the ending

Loved the performance. Great story telling. I can’t say too much without giving the ending away, but there were parts of it I didn’t like.

Great listen!

A well written and well narrated story.
I really liked the fact that it jumped back and forth between 1955 and 1975.
Some of it made uncomfortable listening because it was based around some historical things that happened but I was really invested in the characters and what happened to them. I have listened to 2 books by this author and am looking forward to the next one.
