Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

In the early morning hours of 6th November 1943, SS Reichsfuhrer Heinrich Himmler, receives the coded message he has been waiting for, 'the Eagle has landed.'

It was to become known as the most daring enemy mission of the entire war: Operation Eagle, Himmler's audacious plan to kidnap Winston Churchill on British soil.

But, despite spectacular secrecy, there was to be no surrender without a fight....

For in that remote corner of Norfolk, an elite unit is gathered together. Ready to do battle for a nation against the most ruthless taskforce ever assembled.

Great War adventure writing

If you have not read it. you have missed a treat. I think Higgins best work. Strong characters and plot with a bit of mystery twisted in.

Himmler, paratroopers, e-boats, fools and heroes. This story has it all.

Thrilling

The film is a classic and very faithful to the book which, of course, gives much more detail.
The narration is superb and Noble’s voices and accents are spot on. Always difficult to do female voices I think but he nails every one.
Highly recommended.

A modern classic revisited

I still have the original hardback on my bookshelf .
It was a pleasure to revisit one of the outstanding WW2 novels via audio. Peter Noble's narration is superb.

Fact or fiction??

Brilliant story, brilliantly performed, so much so that the listener finds themself questioning whether or not it actually happened.

We all know the outcome, we all know want didn't happen, but do we know the truth about we did happen? A gripping believable story.
