 ２０００年代に「２ちゃんねる」「ニコニコ動画」を成功させ、今は英語圏最大の匿名掲示板「４ｃｈａｎ」の管理人をしつつ、パリで余生のような暮らしを送るネット界の超有名人・ひろゆき。

「９９％の努力と１％のひらめき」というのは、発明家エジソンの有名な言葉だ。
これの真意をみんな誤解している。
本当は、「１％のひらめきがなければ、９９％の努力はムダになる」ということだ。しかし、「努力すれば道が開ける」という表現で広まっている。
発明の世界では、出発点が大事だ。
「光る球のようなものを作ろう」
という考えが先にあって初めて、竹や金属などの材料で実験をしたり、試行錯誤を重ねたりして努力が大事になってくる。
ひらめきもないまま、ムダな努力を積み重ねていっても意味がない。耳障りのいい言葉だけが広まるのは、不幸な人を増やしかねないので、あまりよくない。
そんな思いから、この本の企画は始まった。
