About this listen

Brought to you by Puffin.

From the creator of PERCY JACKSON, bestselling author Rick Riordan, comes a brand-new adventure, inspired by Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

Ana Dakkar is a freshman at Harding-Pencroft Academy, a five-year high school that graduates the best marine scientists, naval warriors, navigators, and underwater explorers in the world. Ana's parents died while on a scientific expedition two years ago, and the only family's she's got left is her older brother, Dev, also a student at HP. Ana's freshman year culminates with the class's weekend trial at sea, the details of which have been kept secret. She only hopes she has what it'll take to succeed. All her worries are blown out of the water when, on the bus ride to the ship, Ana and her schoolmates witness a terrible tragedy that will change the trajectory of their lives.

But wait, there's more. The professor accompanying them informs Ana that their rival school, Land Institute, and Harding-Pencroft have been fighting a cold war for a hundred and fifty years. But now the heat is on and the freshman are in danger of becoming fish food. In a race against deadly enemies, Ana will make amazing friends and astounding discoveries about her heritage as she puts her leadership skills to the test for the first time.

Rick Riordan's trademark humour, fast-paced action, and wide cast of characters are on full display in this undersea adventure.

Rick Riordan has now sold an incredible 60 million copies of his books worldwide.

I think this was an alright listen! Rick is an amazing author and I thought that it was a interesting premise. The main thing that I disliked was the narration, the way the narrator would speak felt quite obnoxios/overdramatic when reading the main character for a large part of the book (all the other characters were fine). Once I got more invested in the story after the big twist it stopped bothering me quite as much but jesus christ was in annoying at points. I personally enjoyed the music, it somewhat depends on if you like background music in audio books or not but I don't think it was too overdone and complemented scenes that were intended to he dramatic. I'm interested to see what happens if there is ever going to be a sequel!

I liked it!

Good story. Enjoyable as always. Shame about the music, so unecessary and so irritating. It really spoiled the performance.

Get rid of the music
