Reasonable narration, editing needs attention
Chose to listen to, rather than read this long novel. The narrator does a good job with accents and most pronunciation. It was a reasonable listening experience, though I would guess, under-directed.
There are some repeated phrases that should have been picked up in post production editing, especially in the reading of the very interesting introduction (that actually appears at the end of the audiobook). At one point the narrator apologises for a mistake because her glasses slipped down.
However, very worthwhile.

Excellent narration of a flawed novel
An excellent narration by Anne Marie Duff of this good but flawed novel, in which excellent character descriptions and great 19th century dialogue struggle to reach a believable ending. The behaviour of the main character is so inconsistent as to make it feel like it was written by someone who was changing (or at least, changing their mind) as they wrote the book. The Mill on the Floss is not a patch on Middlemarch IMHO (MM is my favourite novel of all time)but the latter could not have happened without the former. If you liked Middlemarch but haven’t read The Mill on the Floss then I wouldn’t bother with this book. But if you want to read all things Eliot then it isn’t a bad story. You could do worse.
