Critic reviews

The psychotherapist’s guide to raising happy, healthy children is one of the most practical and genuinely useful books out there. Warm and judgement-free, every parent should read this book
It is like a letter from a wise friend who happens to have done years of research (...) I am grateful for it
Made me think about me and who I am and my parents and who they are and maybe, hopefully, one day what sort of parent I might strive to be
I've had the most wonderful feedback from this episode. People stopping me on the street to say how much they've love the book's advice. Philippa's wisdom and delivery has resonated with many parents out there. I can't thank her enough for her time and energy (Fearne Cotton)
I don't have kids but [this book] is a fascinating read on the emotional baggage we all carry
The Easter holidays were a complete joy because of your book - I feel about a trillion times more relaxed and connected as a parent and I have also found it very helpful for my sobriety and recovery
A fascinating insight into how the way you were brought up impacts your relationships with your children and partner, and how to manage the needs of children while showing compassion to yourself
EVERY parent should read this book, however old their child. In fact, any adult in a relationship should read it too. Distilled in less than 250 pages is a road map to healthy relationships. Required reading
Not got kids? It doesn't matter, as the wonderful psychotherapist Philippa Perry's latest book is actually about using our pasts to understand ourselves (...) it's also an excellent book for reminding yourself: life is hard and you're doing your best - so try not to beat yourself up for everyday mistakes
So clear and true ... can't stop recommending it to people ... helpful for all relationships in life, not just parent-child

This is a great book and would recommend for people with babies and very young children, however as my children are no longer toddlers felt the majority had less relevance for me.

Excellent advice but focussed on young children

I’ve read a few books on parenting and this one is the best! It doesn’t give you tips, tricks and distractions, it give you sound advice on how to connect with you baby, toddler, child etc. How to build a relationship with them and how to understand what they are going through.

Best parenting advice ever!

When she speaks in a child’s voice it makes me want to cut off my ears

Good but annoying kids voices

I really loved this book. Very instrospective which made me very emotional at time as well as uncomfortable. Philippa puts in simple word the obvious and also gives great recommendations on how to approach raising a child without judging parents as we all do mistake. This is also a refreshing approach.
I will definitely listen to it again as well as keeping recommending it

First of all please don’t be put off listening to this book because of the other negative views. I’m so glad I proceeded to download the book. I can only guess that the people who have taken offence to this book are the ones who have probably had their noses put out of joint. As for the reviews whinging about her narration/irritating voice - I’m sorry but she’s trying to differentiate between female/male/child voices. I did not find it irritating in the slightest.
As for the content - amazing! She provides evidence to back up what she’s saying. She’s clear and concise. I’ve taken plenty of tips away which, when I become a parent in a few weeks, I will definitely use.
Highly recommend this book!
