About this listen
Learn how to switch off and find calm - from the New York Times bestselling author of A World Without Email
Do you find yourself endlessly scrolling through social media or the news while your anxiety rises? Are you feeling frazzled after a long day of endless video calls?
In this timely audiobook, professor Cal Newport shows us how to pair back digital distractions and live a more meaningful life with less technology.
By following a 'digital declutter' process, you'll learn to:
- Rethink your relationship with social media
- Prioritize 'high bandwidth' conversations over low quality text chains
- Rediscover the pleasures of the offline world
Take back control from your devices and find calm amongst the chaos with Digital Minimalism.

The video referenced and recommended this audio-book as inspiration to why one would remove social media from their lives.
Since listening to this I no longer feel compelled to keep myself updated with what everyone else is doing, and have successfully avoided social media for a total of 2 weeks.
Anyone who's in a similar situation as I am, I recommend you listen to this. As there were a quite a few pieces of advice that I will use in the future.

I find his philosophy and evidence compelling, and it inspires me in many ways.
I left Facebook a year ago after listening to Deep Work, and I'm no longer on Twitter either. I regularly delete Instagram from my phone. I honestly don't mind.
I especially liked his arguments in favour of using tools in this book. Using our hands instead of manipulating symbols on a screen, that's something we should all be making time for.
Having a better quality leisure life is something I definitely aspire to. With Cal's guidance I hope to see positive changes in the near future.
