Critic reviews

A compelling case for cultivating intense focus, and offers immediately actionable steps for infusing more of it into our lives
A wonderfully entangled, intertwined, and erudite series of strategies, philosophies, disciplines, and techniques to sharpen your focus and dive deep into your work
As a presence on the page, Newport is exceptional in the realm of self-help authors
Cal Newport speaks human truth to digital power. He calls out our enslavement to modern devices and calmly presents a better way to live and work (Julia Hobsbawm)
This book is an urgent call to action for anyone serious about being in command of their own life (Ryan Holiday)
Cal Newport has discovered a cure for the techno-exhaustion that plagues our always-on, digitally caffeinated culture (Joshua Fields Millburn)
Cal Newport's Digital Minimalism is the best book I've read in some time about our fraught relationship with technology. If you're looking for a blueprint to guide you as you liberate yourself from the shackles of email, social networks, smartphones, and screens, let this book be your guide (Adam Alter)
You're not the user, you're the product. Hang up, log off, and tune in to a different way to be in the world. Bravo, Cal, smart advice for good people (Seth Godin)
I hope that everyone who owns a mobile phone and has been wondering where their time goes gets a chance to absorb the ideas in this book. It's amazing how the same strategy can work for both financial success and mental well-being: Put more energy into what makes you happy, and ruthlessly strip away the things that don't (Pete Adeney)
I challenge you not to devour this wonderful book in one sitting. I certainly did and I started applying Cal's ideas to my own life immediately (Greg McKeown)

This is my second 'listen' from Cal Newport so you can tell I'm a fan already!
I find his philosophy and evidence compelling, and it inspires me in many ways.
I left Facebook a year ago after listening to Deep Work, and I'm no longer on Twitter either. I regularly delete Instagram from my phone. I honestly don't mind.
I especially liked his arguments in favour of using tools in this book. Using our hands instead of manipulating symbols on a screen, that's something we should all be making time for.
Having a better quality leisure life is something I definitely aspire to. With Cal's guidance I hope to see positive changes in the near future.

I have listened to Deep Work by Cal Newport and enjoyed the use of examples and practical tips which he provides to back up a lot of his points. This is no different. The benefits of life with minimal technology is presented well and put into context with real-life examples and is supported with practices you can include in your life, which I found particularly useful. Definitely give this book a listen if you are interested in minimising the time you spend using technology.

This book is a must read. It will give you fresh perspectives on how to deal with technology in a healthy way while making the most of it. It refuses to bow down to pressure from society and companies whose business is based on your attention, your time, and your mental health.
