About this listen

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein, read by Katherine Fenton.

Around the world in Britain, the United States, Asia and the Middle East, there are people with power who are cashing in on chaos; exploiting bloodshed and catastrophe to brutally remake our world in their image. They are the shock doctors.

Exposing these global profiteers, Naomi Klein discovered information and connections that shocked even her about how comprehensively the shock doctors' beliefs now dominate our world - and how this domination has been achieved. Raking in billions out of the tsunami, plundering Russia, exploiting Iraq - this is the chilling tale of how a few are making a killing while more are getting killed.

Lucid, calm, impeccably researched, gorgeously readable (, Books of the Year)
A brilliant, brave and terrifying book
Powerful … epic … dramatic
A brilliant book written with a perfectly distilled anger, channelled through hard fact. She has indeed surpassed No Logo
Excoriating … passionate and informed … Her prose packs a punch
All stars
Most relevant
Despite this book's unapologetic leftist perspective, the skill of the writer and the breadth and depth of knowledge on display make for a clear and convincing argumentative trajectory..
A dark and sobering masterpiece.

Everyone should read this. Important, enlightening, and there isn’t a dull moment. Most people probably don’t know who Milton Freidman is, but his ideas have had a profoundly dangerous effect on the world

Amazing book

Written before the 2008 financial crisis and anticipating that similar remedies would impact worst hit economies. A grim read that is thoroughly researched, allows for competing views (for example, role of xenophobia in opposing the European project), well written and well narrated. I highly recommend

Prescient

Eye opening and, well, shocking.

It’s disturbing to find out how the world is run and why we are in the mess we’re in.

Hopefully, if enough people read this and realise how they are being duped, something can be done before it’s too late.

I’m not going to hold my breath.
