Walter A. Beede grew up in working-class Lynn and Fitchburg, Massachusetts, raised by his father, Frederick "Freddy" Beede, after his mother left when he was young. Much of what he knows about endurance, loyalty, and quiet love he learned at a kitchen table from a man who said little and taught almost everything by the way he showed up, every day, without complaint. Baseball was the language of that house. Walter went from a schoolyard underdog, always picked last, to a Chicago Cubs draft pick in 1981 and over twenty years as a coach at the high school, travel, and NCAA Division III levels. He later watched his sons carry the game further than he ever did; his youngest, Tyler, reached the major leagues after a two-time first-round draft journey. His most personal book, There's an E at the End: A Father, a Son, and the Name We Carried, is a memoir about fatherhood, loss, and the quiet strength that shapes a family across generations. He is also the author of several widely read guides for baseball families, including Fun Over Fear, The Process, and The Recruiting Process, drawn from his rare vantage point as a player, college coach, and parent. Through his Coach Beede platform, Walter helps families navigate youth and college baseball with character and resilience. He writes for anyone who was raised by, or hopes to become, the kind of person who loves quietly, works hard, and leaves lessons that outlive them.
