Sujata Massey was born in England to parents from India and Germany. She grew up mostly in St. Paul, Minnesota, and now lives in Baltimore, Maryland. She was a reporter at the Baltimore Evening Sun before becoming a novelist. Currently, she's writing an ongoing series of mystery novels set in 1920s Bombay featuring a young woman lawyer, Perveen Mistry. The debut in this series, THE WIDOWS OF MALABAR HILL, was an international bestseller that won the Agatha, Macavity, Lefty, and Mary Higgins Clark awards. She's also the author of the eleven book Rei Shimura mystery novels set in 1990s and early 2000s Japan. Worldwide, her books sell in eighteen countries, and she is happy to continue a life of writing and travel, and appreciating other cultures.
