Steven R. Boyett was born in Atlanta, Georgia, grew up all over Florida, and attended the University of Tampa on a writing scholarship before quitting to write his first novel, ARIEL, when he was nineteen. Soon after ARIELwas published he moved from Florida to Los Angeles, where he continued to write fiction and screenplays as well as teach writing courses, seminars, and workshops. He wrote an (uncredited) 2nd draft of TOY STORY 2 for Pixar. In addition to his novels, he has published stories in literary, science fiction, fantasy, and horror anthologies and magazines, as well as publishing essays and comic books.In the early 1990s his imprint Sneaker Press published chapbooks by the poets Carrie Etter and the late Nancy Lambert. A lifelong martial artist, Boyett earned his black belt in Tae Kwon Do at 16, practiced Aikido for several years, and recently earned a black belt in Batto-jutsu. He has been a professional martial arts instructor, paper marbler, advertising copywriter, proofreader, typesetter, writing teacher, and website designer and editor. In 2000 Boyett took some time off from writing and began composing and DJing electronic music. As a DJ he has played clubs, conventions, parties, Burning Man, and sporting events. In 2006 he launched two music podcasts, PODRUNNER and GROOVELECTRIC, that immediately became award-winning international hits, and established Boyett in the vanguard of the first wave of podcasting. Both series are still going, making them among the longest-running podcasts. For several years Boyett co-chaired the San Francisco Podcasters Association. In 2011 Boyett moved from Los Angeles to the San Francisco Bay area.
