Sharon Short writes "Level Up Your Writing (Life)," a regular column in Writer's Digest. She now also writes as Jess Montgomery. Her novels in the historical mystery series, The Kinship Mysteries, are published by Minotaur Books and are inspired by Ohio's true first female sheriff in the 1920s. Sharon is the author of the novel My One Square Inch of Alaska (Penguin Plume) in which a pair of siblings escape the strictures of the 1950s industrial Ohio town on the adventure of a lifetime. She is also the the author of two mystery series (Josie Toadfern Stain-Busting Mysteries and Patricia Delaney eGumshoe Mysteries), and a humor collection, "Sanity Check: A Collection of Columns," which includes 100 reader-favorites of her weekly humor and lifestyle column that ran in the Dayton Daily News for more than a decade. Sharon has also published short stories and essays. Sharon has received three Ohio Arts Council (OAC) Individual Artist Grants and two Montgomery County (Ohio) Arts & Cultural District Literary Artist Fellowships. Based on early work on THE WIDOWS, she was named a John E. Nance Writer-in-Residence at Thurber House in Columbus, Ohio. For ten years, she was the Literary Life columnist for the Dayton Daily News, and--also for ten years--she directed the Antioch Writers' Workshop. She makes her home in her native state of Ohio.
