I'm a journalist who specializes in education, investigative reporting and finance. In researching True Gentlemen, I wanted to find out why fraternities play such a central role in American higher education, despite the never-ending stream of headlines about abusive and deadly behavior. My book grew out of a series of articles at Bloomberg News, where I now work as a senior editor. I spent more than two years researching and writing this book. I visited chapters in ten states, interviewed scores of members and alumni and reviewed thousands of pages of disciplinary records, court files and historical archives.
