James Owen is a British author and historian. He has written many books about the Second World War, including a history of the wartime Commandos, of bomb disposal during the Blitz and of the Nuremberg trials of the leading Nazis. "A Serpent in Eden" is the classic story of the unsolved murder of one of the world's richest men in the Bahamas in 1943. He is the editor, too, of "Great Letters", a selection of correspondence to The Times newspaper during the past century, of "Great Events", a collection of its historic news reports, and co-editor of "Great War Letters", letters published by The Times during the First World War. He has also edited anthologies of the anniversaries marked by the paper ("On This Day") and memorable quotations it has featured ("Great Quotations").
