Emily Lordi has published four books on Black music and culture: Black Resonance, Donny Hathaway Live, The Meaning of Soul, and, most recently, the first full-length critical biography of Whitney Houston, Holding Lightning. She has written extensively for New Yorker.com, as well as for T: The New York Style Magazine, where she is a writer at large. Her essays and interviews have also appeared in Billboard, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and other outlets. A professor of English at Vanderbilt University, she lives in Nashville.
