Anna Doble is a journalist and the digital editor at BBC World Service. She has previously worked at BBC Radio 1 and Channel 4 News, and has written for BBC News, BBC 6 Music, The Quietus, Drowned in Sound, Huffington Post, The Spectator, the Museum of Youth and Diva magazine. Her first book, Connection is a Song: Coming Up and Coming Out Through the Music of the ‘90s, takes readers on cider-drenched adventures through the key pop songs of the 1990s, from ‘Wannabe’ to ‘Unfinished Sympathy’ via ‘Birdhouse in Your Soul’ and ‘Girls & Boys’. It is the story of the decade from the viewpoint of the teenage music fan and a coming-of-age tale with a coming out narrative which reveals itself through universally understood teen moments soundtracked by bands ranging from the Cocteau Twins to Saint Etienne, Pulp, Blur and Underworld.
