About this listen

Kandy

It was love at first sight when I met Mr. Cane. He was handsome, broody, tattooed, and rich. For years, he's been mine. He just didn't know it.

I wasn't expecting to fall in love with him, or for him to want me in the ways that he did. None of it was ever supposed to happen, but after all we've done together, it's too late to turn back now. A once harmless crush had blossomed into so much more.

Cane

When we first met, she was just a kid - my best friend's daughter. A sweet, young girl with a big heart. But now, she's a young woman who knows what she wants, and all she wants is me.

I've tried holding back, pretending the connection meant nothing, but my sweet candy cane made it impossible. If anyone finds out, I'll be ruined. I've worked too hard to lose everything I've built. But there's just something about her that tempts me, making me want to sacrifice just about anything to have her.

This book has a bit more seasoning than your average romance novel, it is a bit on the forbidden side, but that depends on your imaginations perception of the story. Wonderfully written with easy to listen to narrators. I needed to listen to a book with a bit more “POW”! As get quite board of the run of the mill. On to book 2, Breaking Mr Cain

Great Listen

The story was grand, find the 9 year old crush a bit young/unbelieveable. The narration was spot on though found the story to be a little close to a teen novel. Slow and steady.. sorry I wont be moving on to the next book.

I couldn’t get into this and I think it’s because the narrators…. Couldn’t picture the characters. I think the girl came across really immature and when a book with an age gap like that is written poorly, just. Ones across groomy- shame

Overall thumbs down

I decided to finally try this one after seeing it as “included with membership”… Age gap/ forbidden is my favourite kind of taboo read but let’s just say I’m glad I didn’t use a credit.
I wanted to like this so much but I struggled with the narration (particularly the male) and the overall story telling. The plot itself was okay, although some parts felt like it didn’t flow or make sense.
For example her dad was shot and critical having life saving surgery but her mom didn’t want her 18 yo daughter and husband’s best friend to be with her for support/ in case the worst happened? Then the injures seemed to be played off as minor despite being “life threatening”?
What kid of a working class family doesn’t already have a generic laptop for their only child heading off to college?
Yes the ending is a bit of a shocker/ plot twist but not enough to make me want to listen to the next book.
Maybe reading this book would be better, idk but the narration was hit and miss.
As for the main characters— I didn’t particularly like Kandy or Mr. Cane.

This is a 2/ 2.5 ⭐️⭐️ at best for me.

Not sure how to feel about this one
