About this listen

Can a touch of Satin bring a straight copper to his knees?

Detective Joel Hunter is on surveillance when he first lays eyes on Satin, the singer with the amazing voice, which is as beautiful as she is. But when the stake-out comes to an end, he can’t resist going back to the bar. He gets a shock when he learns what lies beneath the satin dress, but an even bigger one when he realizes he’s attracted to the owner of that sultry voice - Ross Dauntry.

Ross can’t figure out why the cop keeps coming back, even after he’s learned the truth. Is Joel attracted to him, or to Satin? Because the answer is important, and one way or another, Ross needs to know....

A standalone novella of satin and sensuality....

Although this story is in the same series as Lace, you will not find Dave and Shawn in this audiobook - Joel and Ross provide enough heat of their own.

Although its book 2 in the series, they aren't actually connected.
Straight cop Joel Hunter is on stake out in a bar and is interested in the female singer Satin.

This is a well written straight to bisexual story and full of Am I / Aren't I. Joel struggles to confirm to himself that he may have feelings for Ross (Satin). I loved the narration from Seb Yarrick, can't wait to read/listen to Silk, next one in the series.

There is heat and sex, push and pull. Banter from fellow police officers, good and bad. What more do we need, Ohh yes, an HEA.

Satin was the second book I read by K. C. Wells. That was back in 2017 and I haven’t looked back. I don’t re-read books, no matter how much I love them, simply because my TBR/TBL lists are way too long. The exception to that rule is listening to the audio of books I’ve already read.

Listening to Seb Yarrick’s fantastic performance of this story brought back memories of how much I loved the book when I read it nearly 4 years ago. His audio performances are always good but I think he outdid himself with this one. I loved the various accents he used for the different characters. He was able to bring tears to my eyes in a few places and that’s not something that happens often when I’m listening to, rather than reading a book.

GFY/OFY books are favorites for me and this one was great. Satin is the story of “straight” cop, Joel Hunter and his fascination with female impersonator, Ross Dauntry. Joel is puzzled by his attraction to Ross but he can’t seem to resist the pull he feels for him.

This story has just the right amount of angst and tension between the two MCs. They slowly begin to develop a friendship and more and then they (mostly Joel) mess it up. The story has a lot of depth and character development as well as an HEA; I loved the journey these two men take to get there and their chemistry together is really hot!

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Great out-for-you story.

I loved this story about Joel and Ross (Satin) because of the questions it forced both characters to ask and to answer. Joel finds he is attracted to Satin when he thinks Satin is female, then when he learns that it is Ross, he has to confront his bisexuality for the first time and decide if he is attracted to Ross and how to deal with that. Ross, has to confront the question of who Joel is really attracted to, him or Satin. The author handled these serious questions expertly and we are taken inside the characters and their thoughts so they become real and we care about them getting their HEA so much. Seb Yarrick was marvelous here. All the complicated feelings and emotions are right there perfectly expressed.

K.C. Wells does it again, she pens another wonderful novella for her “A Material World” series and I loved every minute of it. I enjoy K.C writing style and the characters and storylines she creates. This book is Joel Hunter and Ross Dauntry’s story and what a story it is. Joel is a Detective and the case he is working on takes him into a bar where there are live performers. This is where he first lays eyes on Satin, a performer who Joel is intrigued with. Joel is straight and has not had luck with dating or finding the right woman. Finding himself drawn to Satin he goes back to see her again and gets to meet Ross, the man who performs as Satin. These two clicked immediately and even though Joel was reluctant at first but they agree to meet for coffee as friends. Joel is conflicted but he finds he enjoys spending time with Ross and wants more. It is a big step for him but Joel realizes he is attracted to Ross in a sexual way and he finally gives in to his desires. I thought these two were perfect together and for each other. I loved how everything plays out in this book, it is a novella sized book that packs a lot of story, a story that is beautifully plotted with drama, heartfelt and emotional moments, some laughs, some hot sexy times and a wonderful romance. K.C. Wells, thank you for another enjoyable and entertaining story!

🎧📚🎧 And for the terrific narration, Sen Yarrick is a talented narrator and versatile voice artist. He brings these characters to life, humanizes them giving each their own distinct voice which makes it easy to follow along and tell who is who. His portrayal of the characters is spot on, he grasps each persona, takes each role and makes it his own. You could hear how much heart he puts into his work as he captures the characters emotions and projects them into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

I enjoyed the low angst approach to what could have been a thorny story. Both Joel and Ross were looking for more, but not sure who they could find it with. Joel’s awakening to the possibilities with Ross was handled in a believable manner and their chemistry was obvious from the beginning. I wish Ross had more patience with and faith in Joel, but it did allow for an over the top declaration. Seb Yarrick did a good job of narrating, though I would have liked more distinction between the voices.
