This is an age gap (she’s 25, he’s 38) romantic suspense featuring a plus-sized FMC on the run from a mafia boss and an obsessed, protective hero who won’t let her go. Despite the premise of the story and the dark themes that are explored, this book was surprisingly cozy and humorous.

I loved the dynamic between Poppy and Dom.Poppy, an independent woman who’s had a rough life, isn’t about to let him tell her what to do. It was amusing watching their constant battles of will. At one point, she even manages to tie him up and escape – temporarily.

The pacing kept me hooked, and I loved the Lake District setting. My only disappointment was that we didn’t see the villain get his comeuppance as it happened off page – a choice that made sense tonally, but left me wanting a bit more closure.

The duet narration was perfection. Shane East captured Dom’s dark, possessive side, while Evelyn Rose brought out Poppy’s strength and vulnerability. The spicy scenes were sizzling and the suspense gripping – it really was an immersive listen.

It’s definitely a lust-forward story, with more focus on the physical connection than the emotional one, but there’s warmth and tenderness beneath it all. If you like protective heroes, feisty heroines, sizzling spice, and authentic English accents, you should check out this book.
