About this listen

Luc

When you come from a crime family, you have a name to live up to. My enemies know I'm a bastard who shows no mercy - exactly the cold-hearted don my father would want me to be. Except we're not the ones in charge. Yet...The Boss wants me to take over his billion-dollar business, and the only way that's happening is if I can win the heart of his cop daughter. I planned to treat her just like all the other women who meant nothing to me, until I met her and everything changed.

Falling in love wasn't part of the plan. Neither was finding out that her father has a hidden agenda, and I'm just a pawn in his game.

Amelia

Running...running away again. That was me. Always running from something. Running from my past and the terrible, dark, family secrets. Running away from myself, from the person I was and who I used to be. Now I'm running from my heart.

Luc...the type of man I never wanted to end up with. The mobster, the criminal, who called me his goddess and worshiped the ground I walked on. I shouldn't want him...because loving this man would be my worst nightmare. But...I couldn't resist him....

Contains mature themes.

I love a good story with a fiercely strong fmc. She is a police officer and he a future mafia boss. He goes undercover to meet her and ends up falling madly in love with her. There is spice, a mystery, romance and plenty of lust too, plus some heavy subjects both at present and from the past. It all ends on a cliffhanger 😩
Free on kindle and part of the plus catalogue audible too.

Really enjoying this story so far, it was a little short but can’t wait for the next book in this series

Great story

Good book, ends on a big cliff hanger which I hate. Well read by both narrators.

Cliff Hanger

This has been very badly described in the "blurb". Reader/listener take note - it's not a standalone but probably little improved if you listen to all three parts. Sounded as though the author had reached an editorial deadline, failed to meet it and so pretended the "cliffhanger" was deliberate and marked the end of the first part start of a series.

It takes over six hours to narrate part one, largely because there's too much sex in it - you wouldn't think that possible but it is when it's effectively the same handful of scenes, rehashed and rolled out whenever the listener might have become bored. You may expect to get a suspenseful, erotic, Mafia-themed "romance" in one short novel. What you're given is a grey and grubby, tawdry and tedious pothboiler in three parts, of which this is the first.

Rather than white truffle filled ravioli; a rare, sizzling Wagyu beef steak and a passion fruit panna cotta, what we're served up here is the equivalent of a stick of celery that's been left in the chiller too long - cold, tasteless and limp. You'll have to pay extra for the entrée and the dessert.

The plot (such as it is) is grubby, see-through and tattered. The characters at best, have the depth and appeal of congealed crêpes but are mostly as flat as the prose on the page. The narration is reasonable on the part of the female narrator but the man sounds as though he's reciting a scientific theory (and his voicing of female characters sounded as though he'd been taught how to act "breathless" but little else).

Overall. either the editor couldn't be bothered to ruthlessly hack the final draft or the publishers decided to make some easy money and turn the pile of green tripe into three books instead of the one decent novel it could have amounted to. Fairly obviously, not recommended!

Unfinished (the audiobook not the listening session, unfortunately)
