About this listen

Lady Evie Chesterfield is a darling of the ton who refuses to become engaged. She's been desperately in love with her brother's friend, Richard Maitland, Marquess of Westfall, since forever. But the dark, dangerous marquess only sees her as a friend and refuses to marry any woman. When circumstances change and Evie has no choice but to take a husband, she decides to convince London's most notorious gentleman to marry her by seducing the scoundrel.

Richard Maitland decided long ago that he wanted nothing to do with love. So, when the gorgeous, off-limits Evie asks him for lessons in seduction, Richard knows he's playing with fire. Despite Richard's determination to protect her from his dastardly reputation, he is tested at every turn by his need for the infuriating, but enticing, Lady Evie. Before too long, he is faced with making an impossible choice....

I really enjoyed the story and the writing... it’s not very often that two people who are in love for 6 years and are unflinching in their devotion toward each other, but as friends, actually gets explored in the HR genre. So often there are time jumps, but we get several so we actually see their relationship evolve. So I really appreciated this.... not to mention that Richard was quite unique as was Evie.

My only issue was that, while the narrator did the POV reading very well, the dialogue was delivered in such an unnatural way that the beautiful words being spoke got lost in really unrealistic cadence... conversations just don’t sound like that!! Justine Eyre or Alex Wyndham would be my choices for something this passionate and emotionally turbulent. Is it terrible of me to wish they’d re-record the series with JE or AW?

Want to hear Sophie’s story now too though, wow!

Such an excellent love story

Not as engaging as the first two books in the series. I found it was difficult to be as emotionally invested in the characters.

disappointing compared to previous

Lovely plot with a wonderful outcome- it will now be interesting how the story shall continue! The narrator has again done a fabulous job.

Charming and enjoyable….

Loved every second of this series, just couldn't stop listening. This is the 2nd time I've listened to the whole series and enjoyed it just as much as the 1st time as it's been a year since I last listened to them. I love this Author, Stacy Reid, she's one of my favourite.
Her books are all nice and romantic and steamy.
The narrator got better with every book. she was a very good narrator with a lot of emotions, except the men's voices weren't masculine enough. But I would listen to more books by Madeline Leslay. I disagree with one of the reviews about changing the narrator to Justine Eyre if it was recorded again. I can't bear Justine Eyres male voices. They sound pathetic. But everyone has their own opinion and whenever I come across a book narrated by Justine Eyre i refuse to purchase it.
Anyway all the books of the series were definitely worth the credits.
Now there's a new one to listen to, Pheobes story Richard's sister.

brilliant series
