A. K. Koonce is one of those authors that’s intrigued me for a long time and I’ve not got around to reading her books. Already my expectations were higher than I would’ve liked (Hyped authors are easy to disappoint), but thank goodness I had nothing to worry about. Hopeless magic was exactly what I expected it to be. It’s the first book in a continuous series and available on Audible Plus. The entire series is also available as a bundle for 1 credit or £7.99.

What if Rapunzel was reversed. Flynn Ryder is the prince and Zakara is the thief. Let’s throw in some RH and Fae Folks tales and this is already looking exciting.

Zakara rescued 3 men from a high tower. What she wants to do is ditch them but she’s intrigued by their talks of forgotten magic. Will she take them to the Hopeless City or will secrets deeply buried dig up too much bad memories?

3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 1🌶️. I did enjoy this short story, it has a lot of potential as a fantasy romance series. I loved the idea of the marks of the fae/ the hopeless and I’m intrigued as to what might happen to our FMC Kara. I did however struggle to get to any sort of character attachment. Even now I still struggle to know which is which. I think the description of them could have been more detailed in that regard. I did however read this via an audiobook so this may have influenced it a little. Overall I probably will continue with the series, and although the book ends of a cliffhanger it’s one I can park for just now so 3.5 stars for book 1 from me!

I loved it and will carry on with the series. There is more to all our mc and fmc in particular than what meets the eye, and I'm dying to find out what is it about each of them.... how is she going to develop her powers, and is their revenge going to be gruesome???????
there wasn't a lot of spice but I enjoyed the little bits we had, but I've got to say i truly hope there are a lot more spice times on the next book and group activities too.
