About this listen

Over five seasons, Miss Harmony Barrett has managed to repel every gentleman of consequence and engineer a debacle at Almack's so horrifying that her waltzing privileges are revoked. If she's not in the library reading about Mongol hordes, she's embarrassing her family or getting involved in impulsive scrapes.

Enter the Duke of Courtland, a man known for his love of duty and decorum. Through a vexing series of events, he finds himself shackled to Miss Barrett in matrimony. But all is not lost. The duke harbors a not-so-secret affinity for spanking and discipline…and his new wife is ever in need of it.

Will the mismatched couple find their way to marital happiness? Or will the duke be forever Disciplining the Duchess?

I'm a huge fan of Annabel Joseph, especially her BDSM ballet novels.

This historical romance was a combination of a Jane Austen social/marital intrigue and a bodice-ripping, kinky romp featuring spankings galore and even a spot of figging (look it up, I dare you).

The entire opus was almost damaged beyond repair by the narrator, Emma Kent. English, she certainly is not but that doesn't prevent her from trying to affect an upper class English accent with scant success.

The result is slow, strangulated speech and a worrying list of words that are routinely mispronounced. These include but are not limited to: forward, ignominious, Hertfordshire and meted.

These mistakes are entirely avoidable: the narrator herself could easily look up the correct pronunciation and whoever was sitting in the recording booth as her producer should have been on top of this.

For this inexcusable sloppiness, Ms Kent merits, at the very least, a good spanking, with the possible addition of a 'fig'.

Good writing ruined by poor narration

Whilst I enjoyed this book, and found the story very touching in places, there is the underlying theme of BDSM, at times taken a bit too far, but in keeping with the storyline. I found it quite romantic in the end, and now I know what a ginger fig is! lol I did find the narrator to be a bit slow, and although she managed a quite good upper class English accent, there were some glaring mispronouncing of certain words, so I only gave her three stars. All in all a good book, if read a bit too slow.

I have bought this book despite the bad reviews as I listened to the extract and liked it.
The book was nice and funny only I am not into SM and hate violance of any type. So it was not nmy cup of tea.
However I consider the narrator very good I even looked for more books done by her but there were none:-(

Well, listen to the extract and then see.

not my cup of tea

I’ve read this book on my kindle and really enjoyed it so thought I’d get it to listen to at work.
The narrator has completely ruined this book, awful accent and talking slowly like the listeners are idiots. What a waste of money.

Awful narration

A wonderful and at tones funny tale. The characters were well drawn and believable. This wasn’t a tale that rushed through the developing plot only to get to the more steamy scenes. I would highly recommend this ebook.
