About this listen

A Dark-Hunter series audiobook from #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon

Eleven thousand years ago a god was born. Cursed into the body of a human, Acheron spent a lifetime of shame. His human death unleashed an unspeakable horror that almost destroyed the earth. Brought back against his will, he became the sole defender of mankind.

Only it was never that simple. For centuries, he has fought for our survival and hidden a past he never wants revealed. Until a lone woman who refuses to be intimidated by him threatens his very existence.

Now his survival, and ours, hinges on hers and old enemies reawaken and unite to kill them both.
War has never been more deadly... or more fun.

Critic reviews

“Focusing on the core of each of the main characters, Graham directs the flow of the plot around their raw emotions. He gives the impression of barely being able to hold in their power while also allowing glimpses of their vulnerabilities.” —AudioFile, Winner of an Earphones Award

I chose this book as I'd read the first few Dark-Hunter novels some years ago and really enjoyed them. I had always been intrigued by the mysterious Dark-Hunter leader, Acheron, so to find a whole book on him sounded like a huge treat.

This book more than surpassed any expectations I could have had about it. The first half in particular, which is set nearly 10,000 years B.C. and delves into Acheron's origins and early life, was quite different to the previous books I'd read, but was absolutely, completely and utterly, enthralling. I hung on every word, and suffered and endured all of his trials and tribulations right along with him. The second half of the book brings things up to date and is more similar in style to the previous books I had read. Come the end I felt like I'd lost a friend. I just wanted to start over and listen to the whole thing again!

I was a bit dubious about the narrator at first, and wasn't sure I liked his voice very much. However I persevered, and it wasn't long before I got used to his American accent and began to really appreciate the way he read with such expression and depth of feeling. I would definitely buy a book read by this same narrator again. He did an excellent job.

I just wish there were other Dark-Hunter novels available to purchase on audible, but this seems to be the only one for now.
