About this listen
A toxic ex.
A girl who lost herself.
A childhood friend helping her find the way back.
When Hailey finally ends her relationship with her narcissistic ex-boyfriend, she thinks all her troubles have ended. But what she doesn’t realize is that the wounds he inflicted aren’t on her skin, but in the way she sees herself. And the only person capable of helping her heal has been in her corner all her life.
Jax has had a soft spot for the younger Porter sister ever since his family moved into their neighborhood. It feels like the most natural thing in the world to go from helping her with math homework, to holding her hand through a rough breakup years later. But as he starts to show her how beautiful and worthy she already is, he himself starts to notice the incredible woman that she grew up to be.
While Hailey struggles to balance finding her strength with navigating her budding attraction to her older sister's best friend, Jax has to decide if his new feelings for Hailey are helping or hurting her journey.
Can Jax and Hailey start something new while the past is hovering over their heads? Or will Hailey’s scars hurt them both?
2 Fights is the second novel in the Fight Game series but can be listened to as a standalone. It is a friends-to-lovers sports romance featuring strong language and explicit sexual scenes. Listener discretion is advised!
©2022, 2024 Nikki Castle (P)2024 Audio Sorceress and Nikki CastleIt has been a hot minute (2021) since I read the first book of this series so to say I remembered bugger all about these characters would be an understatement. As i read bits about them came back to me so reading book one isn't necessary to be able to pick this one up. I think the author does a good job of explaining emotional abuse and showing aspects of what it can be like to be in a relationship with someone with a narcissistic personality, however Hailey's "recovery"/healing from that towards the end of the book was rushed and glossed over which felt like a disservice to the time spent building that aspect of the plot in the first place.
Overall the writing is good, I liked the connection between Hailey and Jax, the chemistry between them and the spice when it happens was good and the dynamic between them worked for me. However the pacing of the story was off, this book felt unnecessarily drawn out and repetitive in places where there was no need and then rushed in places I wanted to see more from aka Haileys personal healing. This book could and should have been shorter, the same story could have been told in a much more compact and potentially impactful way imo.
This was book 4 in my Beat The Backlist personal challenge for 2026. I liked the characters and was entertained enough to want to continue with the next book in the series at some point and I'm glad I finally got round to picking this one up. 🌶🌶🌶

2 Fights is a friends to lovers romance between a woman overcoming an emotionally abusive relationship and her childhood best friend who’s always been by her side. Trust me when I say Hailey & Jax’s chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS!
The pacing of this book is very different than book 1, as we spend about 40% of the book with Hailey still “with” her terrible ex. I do wish this part of the book had been a bit shorter, however it does show a very real situation of how you can completely lose your sense of self due to a manipulative and abusive relationship. This is something really important to have portrayed in the book, but it does mean that the relationship with Hailey and Jax is almost a second fiddle in terms of development.
I almost wish the entire book was about Hailey rediscovering her own self worth as an individual vs with Jax, but I just love Jax so much I can’t help but root for him to finally get his girl!
2 Fights is the second novel in the Fight Game series but can be listened to as a standalone. But you should definitely also listen to book 1, 5 Rounds!
Best friends to lovers!
