Jack only wants to feel normal. But how can he? His mum doesn't seem to care, his dodgy uncle scrapes a scruffy kind of living, and they all live together in a run-down railway station. Things start looking up when Jack finds an old saxophone.

Charlie is annoyed with Beryl's noisy drumming, until she lets him have a go. As an assistant at the local magic show, Stef is practising a lot, too. And when Beryl is ripped off by a conman, the boys have to work out yet another skill.

"What is my dad thinking? He's planning to sing AT MY SCHOOL in a fund-raising concert! It's even worse for Eddie. His dad is an Elvis impersonator. Eddie's life might just as well be over. And when Eddie's dad gets together with my dad, my life will be over too!"
