Throughout his life, renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Benjamin Carson has needed to overcome many obstacles: His father leaving the family; being considered stupid by his classmates in grade school; growing up in inner-city Detroit; and having a violent temper. But Dr. Carson didn't let his circumstances control him and instead discovered eight principles that helped shape his future.
In You Have a Brain: A Teen's Guide to Think Big, Dr. Carson unpacks the eight important parts of Thinking Big - Talent, Honesty, Integrity, Being Nice, Knowledge, Books, In-Depth Learning, and God - and presents the stories of people who demonstrated those things in his life. By applying the idea of T.H.I.N.K. B.I.G. to your life, and by looking at those around you as well, you too can overcome obstacles and work toward achieving your dreams.

"Super more should follow in these footsteps"
I'm old but this book has given me new vision and I can't wait to share it with my grandchild
"More than just platitudes. Excellent listen. I found myself smiling as I listened!"
Very encouraging words and story. Narrated well. This is a story that is uplifting and that offers practical steps to take beyond the book. It is so much better than the typical "I-was-a-victim-of-the-system" stories out there.
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. It was very entertaining and never a dull moment. I learned a lot about what our brains and what we are capable of if we use them!
This is a very good life story filled with good insights and values we should all pay attention to. definitely a very good listening.
"Not just for teens. I loved it."
I reviewed for my daughter and could not put it down.
This should be a must read for students.
A Must Read By Every American. Input all parents need to raise children with great character and get some guidance for themselves in the process.
"A must listen for today's youth"
Great story. Inspirational and thought-provoking. Best advice is to Dream Big. You can do whatever you put your mind to doing.
"Independence and determination"
Yes, the story is not only compelling, but a great reference to teach and understand how some think, but also our children.
Struggling with anger and rage, what a great example of how focus, guidance, and determination can change a life; not to mention a higher power.
good reader, with excellent dictation and a tone that is easy to listen to.
Dust to glory!
"Brains...everyone has one"
Even as a child who's mother had bouts of mental depression, it just goes to show that everyone who tries can succeed.
"You Have a Brain Review"
Yes, The author shows how powerful your mind is if you use it. He certainly challenges everyone to seek all the adventures available as each will provide you with more skills and knowledge to enable you to be more than you ever thought was possible.
I can't think of any similar book.
The scene where he sees the lab tech job opening at a local college and decides to apply even though he is still in high school. He was able to submit an excellent resume because he had held many lab tech jobs in high school. He had obtained each job because his science teachers had recommended him highly to their colleagues after he had worked with them. However what really made him outstanding to the professor interviewing him was that he loved classical music as did the professor.
