Summary
The most invasive species.
The Scottish highlands; a sparse, mountainous region some say was carved by the gods themselves. Few places are as untouched as this harsh, prehistoric land. But, nestled deep within the wilderness lies a cottage, and that cottage is a hill.
When a group of friends travel up from Manchester and hire the cottage for a weekend of boozy fun, they discover a threat far greater than the harsh landscape and unforgiving weather. Something deadly lies upon the hill. And, it's spreading. Soon, there will be nothing left.
If you love claustrophobic horror with a dashing of body-horror, then The Spread series will knock your socks off.

Iain does it again!
Iain Rob Wright does it again! Tense, claustrophobic and terrifying, and once more Aubrey does a fantastic job too. Can’t wait for the 5th book due to be released in March 2022! Iain is fast becoming my favourite horror Author!

Brilliant!
This box set is one of the best horror sets IMPO. The first books sets the scene when a group of lads set off for the Scottish highlands on a Stag weekend. They arrive and then go out for a walk up the hill..... their lives will never be the same again. I must admit after finishing book 1 I had to take a break and listen to a "nice" book to settle my mind... I'll never look at a rabbit in the same light again! Books 2 and 3 are just as good as the first and I finished these 2 in one sitting so to speak. Looking forward to listening to book 4 in the new year. Aubrey Parsons excelled at the narration, each character was distinctive and as always he managed to build up the drama with his narration. No hesitation in awarding the 5 stars in all quarters. *****

Not my usual read!
I got this set of three books purely because it was narrated by Aubrey Parsons! The story had enough details and interesting characters to keep me engaged, in spite of the rather ridiculous subject matter!
Overall Aubrey gave such individuality to the people he was voicing, that I really cared about them and wanted to know what happened to each of them.
Another clever trick employed by the author Iain Rob Wright is to make the characters multi dimentional. Some people you really don't like become kind of heroic. Others who seem nice develop into not such nice people as the story unfolds! That always pulls me in!

I really wanted to like this...
Firstly the good. The narration is excellent. Aubrey Parsons does an excellent job, although I was surprised by one of the characters sounding a lot like Johnny Vegas..
Now onto the story, I would say that it is pretty much what you would expect if you've read a few of these sort of books. The problem is that the characters didn't feel very believable. I realise that fleshing out characters is needed, but an example scene which killed it for me is ... Who would hide in a shed while their friend (who has transformed into a killing machine and has already tried to kill them) is outside, and start chatting causally about if one of you really wanted to get married!
This sort of interaction killed it for me, so sadly I didn't make it further than book 1, and then at 1.7x speed.

Not bad
Could have been better in terms of the storyline. A little predictable, only because I have read similar books, loved the narration and that’s the main reason I enjoyed the books. Not the worse books which I have listened to. I have brought books 4-6 so I can finish the series.

Don’t bother
The concept has been done before but much better. Badly let down by the narration, stereotyped Mancunian accents made it difficult, almost painful to listen to at times.
