Summary
Following the events of The Last Colony, John Scalzi tells the story of the fight to maintain the unity of the human race.
The people of Earth now know that the human Colonial Union has kept them ignorant of the dangerous universe around them. For generations the CU had defended humanity against hostile aliens, deliberately keeping Earth an ignorant backwater and a source of military recruits. Now the CU’s secrets are known to all. Other alien races have come on the scene and formed a new alliance - an alliance against the Colonial Union. And they’ve invited the people of Earth to join them. For a shaken and betrayed Earth, the choice isn't obvious or easy.
Against such possibilities, managing the survival of the Colonial Union won’t be easy, either. It will take diplomatic finesse, political cunning…and a brilliant "B Team", centered on the resourceful Lieutenant Harry Wilson, that can be deployed to deal with the unpredictable and unexpected things the universe throws at you when you’re struggling to preserve the unity of the human race.

Another great part of the story arc!
Loved this book as much as the others in the series but really enjoyed the humour that crept into this one. It was also great to get to know more about some of the other main characters. As always it has some interesting plot twists and turns.

Enjoyable and slightly different from others in the series
A nice injection of humour in the a familiar world. The structure means it is lots of smaller stories strung together. Enjoyed the cast of characters.

Fantastic evolution of a series
I think I am glad John perry is missing from this one actually, the happy family ending was a bit annoying
the main cdf soldier being a techie added a more believable and pleasurable spin to his competency than JPs dumb luck too!
great new characters with interesting twist and turns. The women were more multi dimensional in this too.
Lastly, I liked that the books was more of a series of adventures with a tied-together undercurrent.
Can’t wait to get the next book.

Great. Pity about about the editing, Wilson said.
Great ideas in fleshing out the OMW universe. Excellent narration, but please find someway to edit out all the "Wilson said" type declarations.

Survives with the relation between lead characters
A light story with some engaging character relationships. It feels like the author is attempting to convey flat irony too often and the constant repetition of ...said ...said ...said is, well, repetitive. Please be a bit more creative.

Highly enjoyable and a riveting read
Like the other books of the old man's war series that I've read. An amazing piece of science fiction

A return to the Old Man's War universe
Would you listen to The Human Division again? Why?
I'd probably not re-listen to it, there are some things about the writing in the book becomes a little annoying. I imagine that on the page the snappy 'He said' 'she said' 'he said' isn't so bad, but the repetition really started to bug me.
Would you recommend The Human Division to your friends? Why or why not?
I'd recommend it to people who were already fans of the Old Man's War universe, whilst it has new characters, it is not a standalone set of stories.
Any additional comments?
This is really a collection of inter-linked short stories, if you go in expecting this rather than a complete novel then you will enjoy it more.

A good humoured romp of a novel
If you could sum up The Human Division in three words, what would they be?
Fun, exciting, enjoyable
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
Nothing really, it is what it is, a good natured and enjoyable space opera romp
Have you listened to any of William Dufris’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I haven't listened to any of William's other performances, but I will. Definitely.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
It's not that type of novel.
Any additional comments?
If you want great literature, you won't find it here. On the other hand, if a good yarn, with lots of exciting moments and several compartmentalised stories appeals, then have a listen. William Dufris's performance was excellent. He exudes charm and character, and made the novel come alive.

Fantastic collection of linked stories
I've really enjoyed this book. Not a single story but a collect of closely related stories with many repeated characters. A deeper look into the universe of the old man's war.
Excellent narration too.
