Summary
With four years in the Parachute Regiment, ten years in the SAS and two Everest summits to his name, no one is better equipped than Jay Morton to reveal what it takes to become the best of the best.
Soldier is Jay Morton’s masterclass in mindset, strategy and excellence. Drawing on his extraordinary personal experience, it provides in-depth, comprehensive lessons and practical takeaways.
Whether serving as an elite soldier, training as a high-level shooter or becoming an expert in HALO (high-altitude, low-opening) and HAHO (high-altitude, high-opening) parachuting, Jay has always strived to be at the very top of the game.
More than most, Jay knows that military service develops skillsets you’d never dreamed of having, and which can be applied to our day-to-day lives. We are prone to underestimating ourselves, but physical and mental endurance and resilience – as well as realising our own full potential – are well within our reach.

A book for every 'man'
I didn't expect this book to have such an impact on me, a 55yr old woman. I didn't expect to listen to you quote one of my favourite philosophers "Nietzsche" plus various elite athletes. I do "know" that this book will now become my reference manual as I build my resilience. I also know you will always be a 'soldier' and have my up most respect!

"Soldier:Respect is earned" my thoughts.
Not quite what I expected but a good listen all the same.
An interesting exploration of the Mental Strength and Physical Strength required to be in the SAS.
The coping strategies developed can be useful for the Civilian Life also.
Fail to prepare is to prepare to fail.
On a visit to Duxford RAF base I saw the motto of the Parachute Training Unit "Knowledge Conquers Fear"
As my Tai Chi instructor says often "Remember To Breath"
Best regards.

perfect
the story wasn't as I expected had a lot more lessons but I liked that. he was not very good not at writing or reading with emotion but that is what really made it feel like I was talking to a soldier in real life over all couldent have been better.

Decent
I had high expectations from this, maybe due to his appearance in SAS who dares wins, but it wasnt what i was expected,he had a few views about children i dont agree, book wasnt bad, just not my type, even tho these story are my types.
He is a bit too much into Military, eats sleeps thinks Military, then again, what would you expect?
For me wasnt nothing like other similar books, maybe it is for someone else.

A timely reminder & food for thought on wellbeing
As I move forward in the next phase of my career, this has come as a timely reminder that I do deserve this role, what I need to do to make it successful and support those around me. It even prompted me to do the Myers-Briggs test to get a better understanding of myself. Jay talks my type of language, intelligent, matter of fact and sprinkled with profanity. I have really enjoyed this book and have waited a week to finish the last chapter, a, because I didn't want it to end and b, to digest what had been said. It will be a book I revisit time and time again, plus I have asked for the hardback to go in the Christmas stocking. Well done Jay, I can't wait for your next insight.
