Summary
In The Name of the Wind, Patrick Rothfuss brings together elements from all the great fantasy writers, from George R. R. Martin to Robert Jordan, to create a thrilling and intricately spun story that will leave you breathless.
I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the university at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.
So begins the tale of Kvothe - currently known as Kote, the unassuming innkeeper - from his childhood in a troupe of travelling players, through his years spent as a near feral orphan in a crime riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic.
In these pages you will come to know Kvothe the notorious magician, the accomplished thief, the masterful musician, the dragon-slayer, the legend hunter, the lover, the thief and the infamous assassin.
The Name of the Wind is fantasy at its very best.

Brilliantly written, beautifully read but...
Any additional comments?
The Name of the Wind trilogy is absolutely fantastic. It is well developed, the characters believable and the richness of the story can be compared to very few. It is also brilliantly read by Rupert Degas. That being said, Audible you are an absolute disgrace. Splitting the price of the book into two different parts is just so unnecessary. So to my great regret, and I apologise to both Patrick and Rupert who have brought the story to life, I will not be buying the next part or the following book (which is also split into two). Come on Audible, I get that you have to run a business etc but I can't be the only customer you are loosing over this. Sort it out.

incredible!
I read this book maybe 10 years ago as a random pick up because I liked the cover art.. I was immediately swept up in this incredible masterpiece I practically didn't put it down until finished! I waited extremely impatient for the next book and pre ordered as soon as was possible.. I decided to try audible for my long drives and work :) and of course I could think of nothing better as my first audible book to buy... once again I am consumed by this story and have now began the second..
needless to say I am one of his many many fans almost dying of anticipation for the doors of stone!!
if you have not read this book there is no better...
I loved many fictional stories, George R R Martin, Tolkien, J.K Rowling and the such all extremely enjoyable reads but the intricate details and effort in the world pat has created just fills me with awe :)

Great storytelling. Fantastic narration .
Real old fashioned! Occasionally the dialogue is a bit clunky but some cracking imagery compensates.

Captivating
The narrator was fabulous. His accents and tones made it easy to follow when he changed character. He is Kvoe! I really felt as though I was at the Inn listening to the story unfold. Very excited to see how the story unfolds in the second book.
