Summary

A thousand years ago evil came to the land and has ruled with an iron hand ever since. The sun shines fitfully under clouds of ash that float down endlessly from the constant eruption of volcanoes. A dark lord rules through the aristocratic families, and ordinary folk are condemned to lives in servitude, sold as goods, labouring in the ash fields. But now a troublemaker has arrived, and there is rumour of revolt. A revolt that depends on criminal that no-one can trust and a young girl who must master Allomancy - the magic that lies in all metals.

Slow start got better.

Like the author preferred words of radiance. He doesn't rush a story but if you have time the depth of discretion makes it worthwhile.

Fast paced, entertaining and well written

Fantasy novels can be a bit dense but Mistborn, Book 1 keeps the number of characters to a reasonable number and the storyline is straight forward but engaging. Overall the characters are ones that you can empathize with and want to succeed. Vin the female lead of this book is a strong character with an interesting if flawed personality that befits a street urchin and thief.

The magic in this world is well thought out and consistent with benefits and limits that can make its use a challenge and isn't simply a wave of a hand and problems are solved tool for the author.

The story arc is not predictable and the ending to Book 1 makes sense and with hindsight seems right but is not what you might have expected even more than halfway through.

If you enjoy fantasy novels this book will suit you well.

The narrator does a very good job with the various characters and adds to the overall pleasure of the book.

Pure Magic

I picked this audiobook up after finishing up with Patrick Rothfuss Kingkiller Chronicles books one and two and I needed more epic fantasy to fill the void while I wait for the final instalment. I was not disappointed.

It's a great story with wonderful character but the thing I enjoyed the most was the beautifully designed magic system that is used in the mistborn universe. Burning metals and storing energy, pushing and pulling, internal and external forces. Was genuinely fun learning all about it.

Super good book

Puts a new spin on an age old story of overthrowing an evil ruler!

Narrator was annoying at first though.

An incredible fantasy

Amazing. Just amazing in every way. Deep, complex, lovable characters. An intricate plot, fascinating worldbuilding and a writing style that never lost my attention for a moment. I’ve found my new favourite author

Compelling story and performance

Short answer to anyone considering a listen, this book alone is worth it but the narration makes the experience that much more memorable. Go for it.

The longer, not nearly long enough, answer is; if you want a story that is well developed in forms of world building and characters, you can't go far wrong with Brandon Sanderson's books.
The main cast are brilliant all with unique personalities which lends to the individual roles each of them play.

The story itself isn't exactly complex but the fantastic world building the Sanderson uses makes up for this, the premise maybe simple however the execution - this is to point out the special moments that make the reader/listener smile, laugh, cry. Truly this book is one to remember, pulling the reader along in its own pace carefully crafted through out the book - is near perfection depending on personal tastes.

Again, I can not recommend this series, author and narrator enough as they're all worth the time investment.
