Northern Exposure. Even in Grundy, Alaska, it's unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbour Cooper Graham, who has been openly critical of Mo's ability to adapt to life in Alaska, has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.
For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, its love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he's worried that he might be the violent canine in question. If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he's not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated....

Like the other reviewer, I was a bit wary when I started listening to this, but I actually grew to really like her accent. The story itself is very enjoyable, I was a little disappointed when I realised how many parallels there were with Twilight (don't get me wrong, I LOVE twilight, but I was hoping for something a bit more original) I still really enjoyed listening to it, but was quite glad to be doing so on headphones as there are some quite explicit sex scenes!! Although there are some quite serious themes throughout the book, there are a lot of funny moments which had me laughing out loud. I love how squirmy any mention of Mo's parents made me feel, they are such brilliant characters, but I would not want to meet them! Overall it was really good and lighthearted to listen to, I only took off one star for the Twilight similarities.
Being English, getting used to the narrator's accent took me a while, but a couple of chapters in I saw it more as a good thing, adding more reality to the book. The book as a whole is very well written and the plot was exciting. I took to listening in my car on the way to work, desperate to finish it. I look forward to reading/listening to more from this author.
Funny, sad and highly entertaining. Molly Harper is a good author, definitely on my read more list, and Amanda Ronconi a talented narrator. If you are into this type of fiction give M H a try.
As a fast reader, listening to audiobooks helps books last longer-woop!
I really loved the characters, I laughed a lot and wished the story was a lot longer. The characters are strong, witty, sarcastic and can be bitchy. In a funny way. Just an awesome listen!!
I have listened to this twice and laughed all the way through
When he turned up on her doorstep with a mantrap on his leg
Yes. Amanda Ronconi's reading is really good. Gets the tone just right for this type of book. Not the book to listen to on a train, people keep wondering why you are laughing out loud.
Don't be put off by the title, yes the storyline is pure escapism but well written and if you are feeling a bit low buoys you up.. I know i'll read it agian some time.
Audible kept recommending me this series based on other books I have rated highly, but I avoided it for some time due to other reviewers making parallels between it and Twilight (I am NOT a fan of Twilight), but when it was part of a 2 for 1 special I decided I had nothing to lose (well, actually it was the second book in the series that was part of the offer but I didn’t realise that until after I had bought it). Anyway, I need not have worried. The plot is decent (although not spectacular) but what really made the story was the fun, witty characters- particularly Mo. I caught myself giggling time and time again- just what I needed to lighten up my week. Highly recommend- even if you aren’t normally into into werewolves, etc.
Great fun love story with a twist. i loved the lead character... wonderfully honest & funny. the narrator did a great job telling things from "Mo's" (lead character) perspective, but she has a strong American accent which might not appeal for some people.
Really enjoyed this book and I loved the little inside reference to the Jane Jameson series when Mo mentions ordering a load of books on werewolf relationships from a 'Little bookstore in Kentucky'!
I loved all the characters in the book from the main characters Mo and Cooper to all the supporting characters aka the colourful residents of Grundy Alaska and both Mo and Coopers families!
The story was so funny at times and so good, I didn't really expect the culprit to be who it was at the end, not entirely. I loved learning more about werewolves in the world Molly Harper created cause while they're mentioned in the Jane Jamison series the main supernatural in the series are the Vampires so you don't get a lot of info on the other supernatural types.
I was surprised that Vamps weren't even mentioned in the story though, I would have thought with the longer nights that perhaps there would be a Vamp or two in Grundy and I know the series is set in the same world as Jane Jameson and the Half-moon Hollow spin off series'.
I really look forward to getting the rest in this series to read and hope we get an update on Mo and Cooper in the following books!
This was a good start to the series, although I didn't enjoy it as much as the Half-Moon Hollow books. I can't say that this story had the best characters that Molly Harper has written but they were okay. The thing that really let the story down was the abrupt ending. One minute it was ticking along - with a few chapters that felt like they were there purely to fill time - then suddenly it was the end. Will try the next in the series.
Great narration. I like to list this first as it can make or break a story.
Loved this story. Easy listerning and very entertaining. Will be impatiently waiting for any new books in audio from this author.
I really enjoy it when readers with similar reading interests list their favourite authors and series. It really helps me find new authors too follow. Mine are Charlaine Harris, Jeaniene Frost, Jennifer Estep, Faith Hunter, Molly Harper, Ilona Andrews, Kresley Cole, Deborah Harkness, Nalini Singh, Coreene Callahan and Sherrilyn Kenyon.
"Really enjoyed the book"
Yes, I would listen to this again. It was great for listening to whilst driving - although snorting with laughter when pulled up at the lights made me glad I was wearing sunglasses :D
All the characters were fun but I liked Mo the best for her dry, sarky humour and for not being afraid to bean a werewolf with a fire extinguisher!
I thought Amanda Ronconi really added to my enjoyment of the book with clearly separating the different characters (I loved the accents!) and also having the right tone for the humour.
For once being stuck in traffic wasn't a trial as I got to listen to more of the story, but I actually quite liked hearing it in installments and probably preferred that to listening to it all in one sitting.
This was my very first Audible book and I am so pleased that it gave me so much enjoyment. I have bought the second book and can't wait to start that one.
I was very happy that I could at last buy the book as unfortunately, due to the huge aggravation of geographic restrictions, I have been prevented from buying the ebook version.
"Perfect combination of author and narrator!!"
I am a huge fan of the partnership between Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi, and this book was the best yet. There is no doubt it is not intended to be taken too seriously. These books are light, funny, clever and totally entertaining. Ronconi gives the perfect voice to Harper's characters, and I found myself laughing out loud while listening. I can't imagine a Molly Harper book in any other voice The characters in small-town Grundy, are charmingly eccentric - I loved them and laughed along with them. This is perfect for bed time listening. or if you're having a bad day. Fabulous and totally worth a credit! Get them all!!
"Fun sexy with a good paranormal story"
paranormal sexy funny
Any of Molly Harpers books or the Undead and .... series
None before but she made the characters come alive for me. Very easy to listen too
Did not really consider the duration
Cannot wait for Molly to write some new stuff
"love the series, werewolf are fun"
enjoy this author's writing very much. she had a quirky jovial lighthearted way of telling a story. I have read all of her half moon hollow series and just love her characters. this book was no different and included little mystery. try it I am sure you will like it
This was my first ever audiobook and I loved it. It was a little weird hearing a woman speaking the men's roles and how they all sounded like raspy old men but it didn't stop me from enjoying the book. I don't have enough experience to rate the performance of the narrator so I'm just going with 3 stars.
"Unlikley but effective combination of genres"
I'm not generally a follower of either the supernatural or romance genres so this was not a book I would typically have chosen. I can't say what made me decide to give it a go but the Molly Harper / Amanda Ronconi team deliver some bizarre and comic results and have made me keen to find more of the same. The wonderfully matter-of-fact way the author deals with some of the more unusual aspects of the supernatural I found very appealing. All in all, a great, comedic listen with some laugh out loud moments.
I really enjoyed "the care and feeding of stray vampires". This was neither as funny nor as clever, and there was way more sex than I am comfortable listening to on audio in a public place! Sulky werewolves also aren't that appealingly to me - and I'm not keen on the "I have to hurt/abandon you to save you from me" give the girl some credit for having some brain and some guts.
Also, I'm Australian so I can't judge, but some of the accents seemed really weird to me. Do Alaskans really sound like that?
"Great fun story had me laughing out loud"
I thought this was a great story with interesting characters. Harper makes an unbelievable scenario seem so plausible.
I really enjoyed this book and couldn't wait to get back to it.
"LOVED IT! Entertaining and funny"
The humour, the romance, it reminded me of Twilight
Romance and love scenes, sarcastic humour
Not a thing
