Summary

At the tender age of 10, Fanny Price is 'adopted' by her rich relations and is removed from the poverty of her home in Portsmouth to the opulence of Mansfield Park. The transplantation is not a happy one. Dependent, helpless, neglected and forgotten, Fanny struggles to come to terms with her new life until, tested almost to the limits of endurance, she assumes her rightful role....

Captivating

A truly brilliant performance by Juliet Stevenson. Her deep understanding of the author's intentions, the characters and the tone of the novel shine through this wonderful piece of story telling. Add to that the natural quality of her voice and, for me, you have the perfect combination. Next . . . Northanger Abbey and hours of pleasure.

Superb reading of a great classic

Juliet Stevenson is quickly becoming my favourite reader, this version is one of her best and of course the original source material is as excellent as all of Jane Austen’s writing

Enjoyed every chapter!

Beautifully read by Juliet Stephenson, Mansfield Park offers a insightful glimpse into the class divisions and moral expectations and failings of the early 19th century. Couldn’t stop listening.

Well done.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Mrs Norris has the annoying voice you imagine, and I will say that this would have annoyed me if she had appeared much more than she did.

A minor classic well read.

Mansfield Park is not one of the best the Jane Austen cannon.
As with all the other books the flavour of the times is well conveyed, but I find it hard to remember a more obtuse fellow than Edmund. Fortunately for him, he ends well.
At the same time the obnoxious Mrs Norris and the appalling parsons are some of Austen’s well-drawn nasties.
If you haven’t yet read this, it is well worth a listen.
Juliet Stevenson’s narration is as peerless as ever.

Perfect rendition by Juliet Stevenson

As a teenager this was my least favourite Austen, Fanny seemed so passive. But listening to it again in this engrossing narration by the brilliant Stevenson there is so much to enjoy - Austen’s wit and wisdom on display as she perfectly skewers the weaknesses of her characters and their downfall. A tour de force by author and narrator.

My favourite Jane Austen brilliantly read

It is wonderful tale of morality and the triumph of genuine goodness over selfishness. Juliet Stephenson does a fantastic job. Faultlessly read

Juliet Stevenson is a wonderful reader

Juliet Stevenson reads at just the right pace and intonation. Her voice is soft and clear. The story is classic Jane Austin with the clear hints at feminism and the inferior position of women. The end, although predictable, is worth waiting for with not a few surprises on the way.

Juliet Stevenson is sublime

I didn't enjoy this Austen novel as much as Northanger Abbey for example but Juliet Stevenson's reading is perfection.
