19-year-old Phoebe and her courier father Al have recently moved to Devon, to a small cottage with a river at the end of the garden.
Struggling with her health, Phoebe doesn't go out much these days. Instead, she spends her time playing detective—trying to deduce from her father's deliveries what kinds of lives her neighbours lead.
When Phoebe finds an abandoned baby otter by the river, it's just the push she needs to finally step into her new community. Taking the otter to the local sanctuary, she feels a joy that she has not felt in a very long time. Heartwarming story
Very enjoyable story and characters. However I didn’t like the reader whose intonation and emphasis were quite off. I will buy the book and enjoy my own inner voice reading it.

An enjoyable story but …
The narrator didn’t do the story justice which was a shame. Also Hazel’s other books have been brilliant and although this was a good plot it was a bit repetitive and slow moving in parts.

Beautiful
absolutely lovely book beautifully written and read. loved the storyline which was not as predictable as I thought. many twists and turns and it kept me interested from chapter 1 to the end. a brilliant read

Otterly disappointing
Loved the Call of the Penguins and Away with the Penguins so much that I preordered this book early. Weak plot and characters and quite childlike. I’m very sad I wasted a token ordering it

Like a child’s book
Not only was the story childlike but the reader sounded like she was reading to a child. Very disappointed .. nothing like Away With The Penguins.
