Summary
Polly Waterford is recovering from a toxic relationship. Unable to afford their flat, she has to move miles away from everyone, to a sleepy little seaside resort in Cornwall, where she lives alone above an abandoned shop. And so Polly takes out her frustrations on her favourite hobby: making bread.
But what was previously a weekend diversion suddenly becomes far more important as she pours her emotions into kneading and pounding the dough, and each loaf becomes better and better. With nuts and seeds, olives and chorizo, with local honey (courtesy of local bee keeper, Huckle), and with reserves of determination and creativity Polly never knew she had, she bakes and bakes and bakes.... And people start to hear about it. Sometimes, bread really is life...and Polly is about to reclaim hers.

Lovely, lovely, lovely.
So enjoyed it, Romance, life, humour, what more could you want. Narrator got voices just right, no weird men's voices like so many .No constant repeating stuff, or pointless rubbish to fill a book , you know the ones. Great characters.

good story but slightly dodgy accents!
loved the story, the narrator was good on the whole, but some dodgy accents! I did get wrapped up in the story so it was OK in the end.

A great, light hearted read
This is not a literary classic but it is a lovely, light hearted read which will leave you wanting more (fortunately, there is!). It will also make you want to bake! The characters were likeable, the plots interesting and it was an easy going, feel good book. I really liked the narrator. I actually listened to these in reverse order so knew to stick with it. I am not sure I would have been as convinced from the start otherwise but it gets much better once she reaches Mount Polbearne.

Not one of my favourites
I have loved all the other Jenny colgan novels I have listened too but this one wasn't for me. I found the main character Polly super annoying and for a new commer to a remote village it didn't make sence how she was at the centre of everything.
The narrator's voice aggravated me. Polly sounded fine but everyone else sounded weird and grown men sounded like children.
The ending was obvious which is fine and how I wanted it to end but could of been brought to a better more rounded off end. It just seemed to stop.
Like I said just not for me.

Fabulous feel-good optimistic story
A lovely, optimistic, heart-warming story about a girl letting go of what no longer serves her and spending time out finding out who she is and what her life’s purpose is (her “Bliss”). It turns out that this is baking bread and living a simpler life on a tidal island off the coast of Cornwall, UK where nature (the sea and the Cornish landscape) are very close at all times.
My favorite thing about this book is the part where Polly (the main character) is getting back in touch with herself after living a life that maybe was not right for her. I feel that so many people can identify with living a life that does not really express who they truly are, and maybe dream of doing something different, but are scared to try.
The author really brings you right in to Pollys feelings, to her body, to her surroundings so that you feel completely present to Polly’s simple pleasures as she bakes bread, takes walks, makes friends and to her feeling of increasing freedom as she lets her old life go and slowly comes back to life. This part of the book is my absolute favorite, it is so well done.
I liked the narrator I felt she did a great job with the different accents and voices and really brought the characters to life.

Kept me on the edge of my seat
This is a charming book that far exceeded my expectations. I've been a pastry chef for 11yrs but out of them 11 I only spent 4 making bread at a local bakery. This book made me fall back in love with my job. Outstanding!! The narrator is the best I've heard as well!!
