Summary

It's hard to believe there's a single woman on the planet who can't relate to Bridget Jones. Brought to life here by Imogen Church's playful narration, Bridget is as hopelessly irresistible - and just plain hopeless - as ever.

A dazzling urban satire of modern human relations? An ironic, tragic insight into the demise of the nuclear family? Or the confused ramblings of a pissed thirty-something? The third installment in Bridget Jones' journey, Mad About the Boy, is now out.

Critic reviews

"A brilliant evocation of life as a single girl in a certain time... reads like Anita Loos out of Jane Austen, and any woman who has ever had a job, a relationship or indeed a mother will read it and roar" ( The Times)
"I cannot recommend a book more joyfully... Hilariously funny, miraculously observed, endlessly touching" ( Daily Telegraph)
"Wild comedy... observed with merciless, flamboyant wit. A gloriously funny book" ( Sunday Times)

Classic book

Always loved this book, and was very excited to have an unabridged audiobook available. Superbly narrated by Imogen Church. A modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice incorporating the neurotic thoughts of a single thirtysomething women just looking for happiness. Warm and charming and laugh out loud funny - a fantastic piece of escapist fiction.

Not a book for the middle aged.

when I first read this 25 years ago I laughed till I cried. listening to it as a middle aged woman with grown up children I realised the protagonist was in fact boring, facile and the incessant focus on her weight being under 9 stone was seriously worrying. it may be a period piece but I'm so glad that I don't think.like this now and am pretty certain I never did!

Very Funny

If you could sum up Bridget Jones's Diary in three words, what would they be?

Very amusing entertainment

Would you be willing to try another book from Helen Fielding? Why or why not?

Yes. I really enjoyed listening to it

Have you listened to any of Imogen Church’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't. But I will certainly start looking for more of her performed readings. She's amazing

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud several time, and smirked quite a lot

Any additional comments?

I had watched the movie so pretty much knew what was going to happen, but I still enjoyed listening to it very much, thanks to the several situations the heroine got herself into and to the amazing performance of Imogen Church.

love Bridget

love the book and films so had to hear it now this way, very well narrated, yet I struggled at first to not want to hear Rene herself.

Usually I enjoy the book better than the film

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Just the way Bridget is described - she is not endearing as portrayed in the film, but stupid.

Would you ever listen to anything by Helen Fielding again?

Not any of the Bridget Jones books, no.

Have you listened to any of Imogen Church’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to any others. I'm not sure if it was the performance that spoilt it for me. I suspect not.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

I still love the film - was just disappointed by the book.

superbly funny - story and narration

Would you consider the audio edition of Bridget Jones's Diary to be better than the print version?

I never read the print version, its only because it was available in audio that I actually read/listen to the book. Would not read the book as like my memory of Imogen doing Bridget

What other book might you compare Bridget Jones's Diary to, and why?

Bridget JOnes Diary - Edge of Reason, as they are part of the same series. Haven't read/listened to any other books like this

Have you listened to any of Imogen Church’s other performances? How does this one compare?

As above, but I intend to listen to more of her work - totally amazed by her performances - superb

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Here she goes again

Any additional comments?

thanks to Imogen's amazing narration, I now prefer her version of Bridget to the famous Renee Zelwegger's film version of her charactor

Unusually not as good as the film

Was just ok. I normally prefer a book over the film but i found this one much less enjoyable. If you can get through it without being annoyed with the way "vg" is said then good on you!
