Summary

Gabby looked at the woman she had hated nearly all her life. Then she sat down on the ladder-backed chair, put her face into her bloodied hands and cried. To the outside world, Cynthia Tailor is a woman to envy; she has a devoted husband, a lovely home and two gorgeous children. But Cynthia is deeply unhappy with her lot; she has always craved the best things in life, and is determined to see that she gets them. Cynthia will let nothing stand in her way, even if it means devastation and tragedy for those nearest to her. And the casualties are many: her husband Jimmy, weak and unable to fight the wife he can never please; her sister Celeste, from whom Cynthia steals her most precious possession; and her parents, Mary and Jack, who pick up the pieces. But the victims who suffer the most are Cynthia’s children. For James Junior and Gabby, the pain she causes will stay with them for ever…

awful

I normally like Martina Cole and have read most of her books but I found this one awful, the storyline was too mixed up and did not 'flow' you were constantly reminding yourself who Celeste was and who she was married to Jamie or Jimmy. The narrator on this book was very irritating with the most appalling cockney accent, which is a shame as I doubt I would go for another Martina book as I was so disappointed in this one

What an appalling book

This is the second book that I have read from the author Martina Cole. I felt that I needed to "give her a chance" as Ms. Cole would no doubt have said in her books. If you are fourteen years old (and I don't mean to be rude to fourteen year olds} then I am sure that you will find this book very entertaining as it would have a lot of swearing and teenage fiction. I felt that Ms. Cole writes a book using the same phrases and situations time and time again. Does she have a catalogue of sentences which she uses to puff out a book and collect the royalties. The book is a complete waste of time and it would be a lot cheaper to buy a copy of a weekly "women's magazine". There is no substance to the book especially a book for intelligent adults. A complete waste of money and time.

Brilliant

This is the second Martina Cole book I have read, she knows the language of the streets of London, without sounding false,
The story had me gripped from start to finish, The sad life of the people involved with a self obsessed woman, the gangster types she mixes with, and the repercussions they have on her family, a bit gruesome in parts but just what you would expect from that life style,
I thought it was great and look forward to reading her next one

Another great story by MC

Fantastic storyline, as gritty as ever, just what I like about all of Martina Cole’s books.

Brilliantly written and narrated

ive always followed Martina Cole and narrater Annie Aldington but I must say Lisa Coleman is becoming one of my favourite narrators too. Completely engrossed from 1st chapter to last chapter. Can’t wait to start another and see what’s next

yet again has done it couldn’t put it down

After listening to a couple of Martinis Novels I always find myself sitting up until 3 am listening not wanting to put it down all her characters pull you in to the drama of their lives inch by inch one criticism and I thought the grandmother story and knowledge could’ve been extended further

Appalling

wow what a rubbish book! The first 24 chapters were mostly about how much she doesn't want her kids and how much she hates her husband..how many ways can you say the same thing Martina?? rest of the book..nothing really happens to write home about. I like this narrator in other books but in Martina s books it has to be Annie Aldington as she really makes it come alive . sorry Martina it's definitely not for me!
