Publisher's Summary

Lincoln Rhyme's cousin has been arrested for murder. The evidence clearly shows he did it, but Rhyme agrees to check things out. It turns out that the cousin, along with other people, has been wrongly convicted because the true killer knows every single detail about the lives of the victims he kills and the men he sets up to take the fall for those crimes.

Rhyme, Sachs and the rest of the team have to find out who at the huge, ominous data mining company is getting access to this information. Meanwhile the villain realises he's being pursued and turns his knowledge of data and information into a weapon...

    "Solid Deaver Info Thriller"

This is what Jeffery Deaver does well - a pacy, twisty thriller with a lot of pretty geeky info about current issues - in this one it's identity theft and a sociopath pitched against his damaged heroes. Not as smooth as the Bone Collector, but if you like his work, it's a good one.

An interesting voyage into a world of identity theft with a dark and violent plot. Kept me gripped throughout! I really enjoyed this book - a twisting intriguing plot.

    "perfect reading of this book"

the narrator keeps you listening even when you want a cup of tea or wee, and the speed of his narrating the parts where you are carried along at a pace you can feel the tension and excitement in his voice, it really adds to the pleasure of listening to this audio book and typical Deaver twist and final solving are brilliant. A great listen

"Love the combination of writer & narrator "

I deliberately sought out a Deaver novel narrated by George Guidall. Having listened to the Cold Moon, I was keen to repeat the experience of the perfect voice for the story. And I found it. Loved it.

    "Another good story."

Enjoyed the experience of listening to a story rather than reading it and the reader is a brilliant story teller. Apart from that I was not disappointed with her another very good Lincoln Rhyme mystery.

"The reader has an excellent range of voices."
What made the experience of listening to The Broken Window the most enjoyable?

The story was pretty good. It makes you think - 'data miners'...yuck! The guy who reads the story; has an excellent range of voices; really amazing. I felt there could have been another chapter to wrap it up; as there were a few things left hanging.

Who was your favorite character and why?

A tie; the main character; the detective in the wheel chair; and the killer.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I probably could have read the book; in less time then he did. BUT; I liked the range of voices he had for the characters in the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, BUT no time to do so!

"Keeps you guessing till the end!"
Where does The Broken Window rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It had been a few years since I read the last JD novel in the Rhyme series and I'm glad I've started to listen again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Broken Window?

Finding out about what potentially the data miners know about us!!!

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He clearly differentiate between the characters and his accents were pretty good.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    No.

    "Lincoln does it again"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book as it is up to JDs standards. Great reading. Gripping, tense and perfectly crafted.

What other book might you compare The Broken Window to, and why?

This book is comparable to any other Deaver novels. It has all the attributes that make a thriller stand out above all others.

    "Great book"

If have read (listened to) other Jeffery Deaver books, but no others in the "Rhyme and Sachs" series. I got this one on special, so I was happy to "come in late". The author did a good job of providing enough back story to let you know where the main characters were at (mostly scarred by previous thrillers!).
This story follows the standard rules of a thriller, but the execution is very good - keeping my interest the whole way.

The narrator was ok, but not great. Maybe because I have recently listened to "On a Pale Horse", which he also narrated, and his distinctive tone did not seem quite right in this different context.
Overall, if you like this sort of thing, you should like this.

"One of the most gripping thrillers I have read!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, the story is awesome and the way it has been written keeps you enthral led and guessing all the time. The topic is so relevant to the real world that its scary! Of you love crime thrillers, you won't be able to stop listening until you have heard it all!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes! The author builds the story really well and keeps you on the edge! Grey story tellin by the narrator

What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?

Amazing as always! I love his narration!
