Summary

A mother's worst nightmare - can her son be guilty of murder?

Sarah Newby, who left school at 15, and was living as a teenage single parent on an inner-city estate, has worked her way up to begin a career as a criminal barrister. But what should she do when her own son, Simon, is arrested and charged with a series of brutal rapes and murders?

Has Sarah, in her single-minded determination to create a career for herself, neglected her son so much that she no longer knows him? He has often lied to her in the past, so how can she trust him when he says he is innocent this time? And what should she do when she herself uncovers evidence that seems to suggest his guilt?

Boring

A boring plod of a book.
Unbelievable plot, stereotyped nasty policeman and a husband called Bob of all names.
14 hours of my life I won’t get back.

Gripping listening!

Where does A Game of Proof rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Out of all the audiobooks I've listened to so far, this one's in the top ten!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sarah Newby the lead character. A strong and determined fighter … just how a parent should be for their child.

What does Susan Edmonds bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She brought to life the authors well written characters to further envisage the interplay between them. Well voiced.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I think Tim Vicary puts it best…

A mother's worst nightmare - can her son be guilty of murder?

Any additional comments?

When is the next book, Bold Counsel going to be available as an audiobook?

Sadly cliche ridden and plodding

I got this book for the premise - which is great. But when I started listening, I was quickly put off by the main character, who was chippy and unsympathetic (I guess that will change - but not too enough for me) and t I found the writing inelegant. There were abundant cliches which meant that, 8 chapters in, I gave up. This book probably suffered for me from having come straight after Scott Turow and Michael Connolly, who combine great plotting with beautiful writing. But there are too many good books out there to persevere...
