"Great easy listen, practical, no-nonsense advice"

I have read, and listened to many personal development books but am really enjoying listening to this one. The advice is brilliant, but is delivered in a humorous and practical way. Highly recommended!

    ""Flip It (Unabridged)"."

I have read many of Michaels excellent books and have been inspired to do all sorts of things that I was avoiding. The problem I have is that I am a slow reader. This audio version was just great. It came at the right time January, when I wanted to have some new resolutions, I could play it in the car while driving and the delivery of the messages was crisp and to the point not laboured or dragged out in any way.The style was very much like Chris Evans audio book which I also enjoyed. Its so easy to listen to and the ideas all make sence. A must for anyone.

    "Enough already"

This book probably marks the end of my flirtation with self-help books for a while. It takes one simple idea and beats it to within an inch of its life. I was lured into this purchase by positive reviews. I am baffled as to why so many profess to enjoy it. It was facile and annoying and sanctimonious and did I mention I didn't like it?

    "Life changing"

Flip It is different. It's simple, down-to-earth, fun and far more motivating than most of its competition.

Rather than just listing adjectives, let me tell you about the differences it has made to my life. I've found that I'm more confident, energised and happy than I have been in a long time. I'm a natural introvert, but I've found that socialising has become easier and more pleasurable. On top of that, I feel more optimistic about the future than I can ever remember.

All of this in just 2 weeks.

Not all of the advice will suit everybody, but I recommend that you treat Flip It like a toolbox from which you choose the tools that work for you. Not all of the advice is totally original, and some of it may initially seem like nothing more than common sense. But the point is that when you put it into action, Flip It simply works! I've been keeping a blog since day 1 and reading it through today confirms the book's effectiveness.

Mercifully, the book is almost entirely devoid of spiritual or religious claptrap. Can you tell I'm a Richard Dawkins fan?! However, I'm sceptical about Michael's suggestion of asking a swinging chain a series of Yes/No questions in order to find lost possessions. I feel like I'm excessively nitpicking with that criticism. After all, there's just this one bit of advice that wasn't my cup of tea out of the dozens of brilliantly sparkling gems on offer.

I have the audio book version of Flip It, read by the author Michael Heppell himself. His enthusiasm and humour are infectious. I'd say it's definitely worth spending the few pence more for the audio book version. I have it on my phone so I can listen to it on the commute to work. Make sure you check that your phone or MP3 player is compatible with the Audible software before you buy.

Flip It has been the best ?6 I've ever spent. Hopefully your experience of it will be as positive as mine.

"Not What It Says On The Cover"

I admit to being a sceptic when it comes to self help books in general. Many such books offer a one size fits all approach to every aspect of your life or are other techniques dressed under a new name. I bought Flip It to address a particular aspect of my work life and was attracted by "how to turn even the most pressing problems into the best possible experiences".

Unfortunately Flip It doesn't follow this theme of overcoming problems. Also it falls into both categories of where many self help book are let down - it tries to be a one size fits all approach and comprises other material simply relabelled.

The book makes a good start and the chapter that deals with asking "how" rather than "why" is one of the most valuable take away's. However as the book goes on, Michael Heppell stretches the Flip It concept too far to the point where it becomes implausible.

I was also disappointed to find other material dressed up as the Flip It concept, for example the advice on job hunting can be read in any basic job seekers manual. Also, I first came across the tactics of the Paris street seller in Roger Dawson's classic work "Secrets Of Power Negotiating" published in 2000.

Flip It finally lost its credibility for me at the suggestion to find something you have lost by how a dangling pendant responds to questions you ask it.

On a positive note, Flip It is read by the author, who is by far the best person to narrate his own book.

"Simple, maybe a bit too simple, but a good listen"

For a start, Michael Heppel's lovely accent and from the heart approach make this a really good book to listen to.
I think this is great material for anyone new to and curious about personal development, especially if you're a bit sceptical, as it's really down to earth stuff.
For me it was a wee bit too simple, but a good listen all the same.

"a lot of fun, and inspiring to boot"

The author does a brilliant job of reading his own work. It's fun to listen to, inspiring, gives lots of great ideas and makes you re-think many of your stock assumptions and reactions. One of the few audiobooks I re-listen to regularly just for the joy of it.

    "Great Pep Talk"

I admit, I ordered this book not only for content, but because I love the author/narrator's accent. The book was encouraging, and gives many ideas for changing our perception of any situation and keeping a positive outlook on life. If you need a pep talk, this is a great book.

"New age, but not new age"

Seemed fairly obvious that Heppell's trying to attract the anti-The Secret crowd by implying "I'm not one of 'them'." But, to a certain extent, he is.
If I had to summarize his main point: don't ever be defeatist! Still, there are echoes of "thoughts are things" and he ends with advice to use a pendulum to find lost objects. I don't have a problem with that, but wanted to head off folks later claiming they were expecting something some "scientific" (psychology).
    Value? Good, but not great.

    "Heppell at his best"

I have read all Michael Heppells books and this is right up there with the best. He's like the renegade magician that wants to tell the world how they perform their tricks.

In this book Heppell wants to tell the reader how to coach herself easily and successfully, and he does!

He uses some incredibly powerful techniques that I use with clients to good effect, but delivers them in a very easy to understand manner so that anybody can benefit.

Flip It is a very cool resource for anybody that wants to flip their life around and get better results in all areas. Oh, and it'll also make you laugh, so what's not to love about that?

This is real lowest common denominator stuff written and read in a rather patronizing manor. Go and check out some of Brian Tracy's stuff instead

What ever is wrong, just 'flip it' and work it from that side. Sound advice as there is no good or bad, just what man puts an interpretation to. Use your weakness, faults and failures to actually rework your victories. Not a bad book and Michael Heppell's accent is quite refreshing to listen to. Worth a listen to and good for a pick-me up.

    "Advice bites for "Flip It""

Up on the mountain, in a dark cave, someone is searching his soul for ways to rise above the frustrations of the flesh. Ten years later, upon emerging from the cave, he writes a book about what worked for him. Descending the mountain, meandering ever closer to the city at its base, one meets other gurus, at ever more affable altitudes, occupying caves for increasingly shorter durations, with increasingly better lighting and plumbing, composing less rarefied "what worked for me" books. Every one of them, or so we hope, proffers wisdom from some higher perspective which will help us to rise "above it all." We Earthlings beneath want to view our traumas from different angles, so we read the books. Michael Heppell's vantage point is about as close to sea level as a guru ever gets. No long stays breathing dark thin air for Michael--maybe a few hours of reading musty old books in his poorly lit attic. His wisdom is doled out in parcels such as "five ways to make a long train ride interesting," or "how I used an acidic solution to cure my indigestion." He recommends calling the sniffles "a cleansing." There, there, now . . . all better! His suggestions are sophistry, but words can sooth the day. His advice bites will not flip you from a hurricane's tempest into its halcyon. In the event of a hurricane, flip yourself from the attic of Heppell's enlightenment into the dungeon of despair under your "flat." For indigestion on long train rides, "flip it," Heppell style.
