Part memoir, part travelogue, Going Loco takes us on a dizzying journey around the medical world - from the challenge of a make-shift surgery in the African bush, to the terror of smuggling beagles into Amsterdam on behalf of a global pharmaceutical company. We encounter extraordinary characters on the way - impossible patients, brave souls, and more than a smattering of crazy doctors.

I enjoyed these further tales from the Scottish Dr just as much, if not more, than the first book. I found his narrating had improved, he sounded much more relaxed. Again, I found it easy to build up a picture in my mind from his descriptions which brought his tales to life. A very small piece of me feels he has so many wonderful stories to tell, can they all be true? But working in the medical profession myself I have listened to colleagues tell similar stories, and with Tom's years in the career it may well be possible to have had so many experiences. I hope the most recent book will be released as an audio book very soon.
"Something's wrong with the recording."
Yes. We'd especially like to finish this one!
The part where we realized that we'd already heard what we were hearing. approximately 7 hours and ten minutes into the story.
I've so enjoyed Dr. Tom's stories, wonderfully read by the man himself. His humble courage in the face of the unpredictable world is marvelously heartening. From tears to belly laughs, this and his first book are well worth a listen. I'm onto the third now.
Interesting stories, characters and the right amount of humor and history. Well worth a listen.
This second memoir of a Scottish doctor dealt more with the travel and business side of his practice. Well written and well performed in his pleasant Scottish brogue, it has moments of humor and interaction with memorable patients. A nice follow-up to the first and best volume called A Seaside Practice.
"What an interesting life!"
I enjoyed the continuation of his experiences. There are fewer stories of his practice and more of his life in industry but he writes and reads with good humour and interest. I loved it.
