Award-Winning Author, Kathleen Stickney, shares her story. Adventure called during Kathleen’s growing up years on the continent of Africa. Her Zimbabwe home was a three hour drive from the closest town. She lived at a boarding school during the week.     When Kathleen came home from school, she explored the caves and cliffs of her home. African nature was at the elbow every day. A rescued bird named Patrick flew around the kitchen and stole cookie dough. For a while, a tiny bat took cover in a dark box and became a friend. Even a wide-eyed bush baby, with soft bubble fingers, came to stay. Fast forward many years and Kathleen works as an Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon in Seattle, Washington. The Woodland Park Zoo has honored her with requests for her medical help. Her animal patients have included a lemur, a penguin, and a monkey named Fiona.     Kathleen hopes that Charlie’s story can become one of those rare books that sparks a love for reading (a 'first book' crush) and stands out in a young person's early memory. There is so much hope win the battle of screens versus books. There is also a realization that Charlie role models for us all. Together we are mighty, and together we can change the course of our green planet.
